2nd worst town in Kansas

This is about all that's left of the town my dad grew up in, Carneiro, KS.





We used to go there for family reunions and check out these rocks.

I may have ran marathons near and/or around that rock.  A state treasure.

how is the NW the nicest part of the state?

As a collection of small crappy towns,  the nw is the least awful.  No abandoned coal mines and chat piles (se), no sw abandoned ghost towns and sad impliment dealers masquerading as towns, lacks the humidity and tacky bedroom communities of the ne. 

Again this is just in relation small crappy towns, straight unbiased talk.

i'm totally impartial having not grown up in KS so i have no rival town or these people suck or my town is the worst because...

SE-Galena, it is a superfund site and the whole town was bought out; case closed.
NE-Elwood, devastated by the '93 flood and is little bro to St. Joe, MO. 
SW-Protection/Kingman; both are just horrible
NW-Norton/St. Francis; tough call both are the worst of what is probably the "nicest" part of the state

If you go bigger than XXXX residents, that might change the list, but for realz guyz, to quote choice hotels, "I've been everywhere, man" -in KS.

There's a few other towns in that area of the state worse than Kingman, slu.

Frankly, I'm shocked that this many people know of New Cambria.

True story told to me by an 86 year old man who taught my dad when he was in junior high: New Cambria was extremely psyched when the railroad came to town in the 1940's. Apparently that was like the raddest thing that could ever happen to a town back then. In the 1950's, during a particularly rough winter, a passenger train heading cross country full of hundreds of people slid off the rails right outside New Cambia, and the town had to take them in (which they did gladly because everyone was neighborly as eff back then) and shelter and feed them for weeks while somebody came and fixed the railroad. I tried to settle this debate about town size a while back. You may want to add your new nominees in the appropriate division. I'm adding in Independence now, since we've used perfect logic to determine it is 2nd only to Coffeyville. (http://goEMAW.com/forum/index.php?topic=25275.msg1094182;topicseen#msg1094182)

I looked back at the discussion and here is how I'd divide the races. SEK stands alone, clearly, and the rest are separated by population. I felt it was important to separate suburbs from stand-alone towns, and I added Haysville because I felt south Wichita suburbs were underrepresented. The order within each division is my personal rankings; where my experience was limited I went with the most persuasive board opinion.

Well, this is pretty much the best thing that could have happened, then. More than 100 employees get a job and moving expenses to leave Coffeyville, AND no more sales tax on Amazon. Everyone wins.

one christmas break i worked there for like 2 days.  my job was to take the boxes that came down this huge belt thing and stack them on palettes and then wrap them with these giant clingwrap rolls.  it was fun for about 2 days then i decided it wasnt very much fun anymore.
