There are less than 70 people on the basketball board.

It wasn't fragile. It was pretty sturdy. But cutting the head off of anything will eff it up pretty badly.

Every program is fragile when the wrong coach is there - every football superpower(Bama, OU, USC, etc) has had it get away from them after bad hires.  Even happened to UNC with Doherty and he was coaching an team of NBA types that would go on to win the NC.

We, as a general fanbase, will still care more than all the rest of the conference schools but KU, so it could come back with the right hire.

Yeah, any rational hire would have kept momentum.  Instead, a hotel lock in, knee jerk hire made by Gene Keady based on whether anyone had something bad to say about the hire happened and the results are EXACTLY as expected.

This is what most predicted and was not hard to foresee.  That's why it is blowing up so quickly

We've played two legit teams and have been blown out by both.  Even against the mediocre and piss-poor teams, we've struggled some.

We just had the opportunity to watch a Big 12 championship football team that did all the little things right.  They didn't make mistakes, commit penalties, turn the ball over, etc.  They played within themselves, stuck to the plan and gave maximum effort at all times.  The result is one of the top 4 or 5 best seasons in school history.

Watching this basketball team is the exact opposite.  The team makes mistakes, is fundamentally unsound and appears not to know what the hell is going on.  They get beat to loose balls, they get dominated in the paint, and can't shoot to save their lives.  The result is going to be a season of massive disappointment.

That is extremely frustrating.  Apathy is what we should expect from the fanbase.

unbelievable how fragile the basketball program was

beautiful things are often fragile.
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Nothing gold can stay.

THE WORLD is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man’s smudge and shares man’s smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.

And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs—
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

Maybe, but our Dallas, Darry, Soda Pop, Two Bit, etc are all a bunch of pussies.  The Soc's (KU) are gonna kill us so hard.

Some say the world will end in fire.
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire,
I hold with those who favor fire.
But, if it had to perish twice,
I think I've learned enough of hate
To say that for destruction
Ice is also great and would suffice.

I was thinking today about how Currie is never going to fire oscar because that will mean he has to admit he was wrong.

I love the "it takes time to put in a new offense" talking-point that Fran was trying to feed us on TV last night. Remember when Brad Underwood  put in a new offense over a 9 day xmas holiday.

Weak-hearted canary checking in. Have not watched a game yet. May not. May not watch one at all.

And oscar got 10 extra practices and a trip to Brazil with games.

Like I keep saying, we have a JYC brick and board team trying to run a "pretty" mid major motion offense designed for a bunch of mid major H-O-R-S-E champions who will on occasion pull off a big win.

Last night was yet more proof that if you play hard nosed defense against oscar's offense no one can get open for clean shots.

This is akin to taking a football team who had run the Power I for years and installing the 4 and 5 wide spread and you went out and recruited no spread QB's and associated components.

Most definitely.  It has a Pioli quality to it.  Candy wrappers vs. Western Union receipts

If I hear another dickface announcer/talking head say what a great coach oscar is during the game I am going to fracking lose it. It has happened every game that I have watched. How is this possible?  How can it be that we all know he is a terrible coach, he got fired for being a terrible coach, and he is a terrible coach, yet people keep saying what a great coach he is?  It is maddening.

everyone loves oscar, he's a nice guy
Even if they didn't love him they aren't going to call him a horrible coach.  If you watch a Illinois game or listen to a basketball analyst on the radio or a podcast talk about Illinois you have to read between the lines to hear them call him horrible.
