Secretary Shaun Donovan and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are launching a ground-breaking national study of housing discrimination against members of the LGBT community in the sale and rental of housing.HUD has historically been a leader in combating housing discrimination, having undertaken important research in 1977, 1989 and 2000 to study the impact of discrimination on the basis of race and color. This year, HUD's study will examine housing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity for the first time. While there have been no national assessments of LGBT housing discrimination, state and local studies have suggested this sort of bias exists. This initiative will be led by HUD Assistant Secretary Raphael Bostic and his staff in the Office of Policy Development and Research.

If Scott Li down at the Burrito Village restaurant down the street only wants to hire black people to work in his restaurant and only sell the burritos to gay white dudes then let him go ahead and see how that works out.And like I said, good luck getting educated folks to move to Salina or Hutch.Fred Phelp's has a law degree and did pass his bar exam. There are plenty of bigots that are highly educated.lol okI talked to several medical doctors in Salina on Sunday and Monday who were going to vote in favor of repealing the amendment.Just more proof that doctors in general are bad people. Did they want to be able to fire their employees for being gay or did they want to reserve the right to refuse treatment for homosexuals? Probably both.

Basically they were worried about religious institutions losing the right to discriminate.

the federal government has no right or reason to recognize "marriage" under any definition or in any capacity.
Quote from: Rams on November 07, 2012, 01:43:58 PMthe federal government has no right or reason to recognize "marriage" under any definition or in any capacity.immigration, taxes. i imagine there are other issues but those are huge. if the laws are going to exist, then the govt needs to not apply them in a discriminatory basis.
Any calls to “return to the way things were when…” fundamentally miss the point: the course of human history moves inexorably toward liberty and dignity for all, hard-won victory after hard-won victory over closed-mindedness and disenfranchisement, all of the victories that matter coming at anything less than total sacrifice on the part of the forward-thinking and the courageous. Our democracy was meant to be a great experiment, not a great exercise in collective false nostalgia about the way things once were.
As for the social-issue stuff: I think if someone’s pitch as to how their tax plan will allow you to keep more of your money is more important to you than the reproductive rights of your girlfriend, your daughter, your mom; the right of your gay friend to marry the person he or she loves, I think you need to consider the true gravity, the true human cost of having your priorities in that order.
giving people a tax break for being married? how rough ridin' stupid is that? think about it.
Quote from: Rams on November 07, 2012, 02:07:36 PMgiving people a tax break for being married? how rough ridin' stupid is that? think about it.oh, i agree. it'd be tougher to remove marriage biases from immigration, not impossible, but arguably hard to come up with a better alternative.
you don't get immigration rights just for being married to a u.s. citizen. go stand in line with everybody else.
