Daylight Savings Time

I agree with Chuck but Claire makes a good point. L Journo World never shies away from hot button issues and controversy.

What is your opinion of daylight saving time?

“ Pretty good. You can stay up late. ”

— Chuck Crawford, works at a training center, Ottawa

“ I think it’s stupid. One of the main reasons it was instigated by the government was so farmers had longer daylight hours. At the time 90 percent of the population lived in rural areas.”

— Claire Webb, works at an architecture firm, Milwaukee

“ I like it when there is more daytime. ”

— Danielle Hamrick, unemployed, , Lawrence

“ I used to live in Arizona and they keep the same time all the time. It was the way to go.”

— Nick Nepveux, graduate student, Lawrence

The spring forward makes sense for the world we live in for energy use and for me having the ability to see the world outside of work without headlights for a third of the year.  The fall backward is as backward as anything gets.  Dark earlier and intentionally?  Woof.

Without the fall back, kids would be walking to school in the dead of the night.

I like it. I like long summer days, and I like getting the extra sleep in the fall. Who cares about how early it gets dark when it's freezing ass cold outside anyway?

We should stay on daylight savings time permanently. Kids should go to school from 9:00 to 4:00.

I hate daylight savings time.

It was pretty cool in college when the bar was minute from closing then...BAM...another hour. But aside from that, yeah, it pretty much sucks.

Seven PM kick, bars by 11 or 11:30, still have almost 4 hours of bar time!

I love it when people think it has something to do with farmers.  Because it doesn't.  And then I feel smarter than that person.

Personally, I'm for as much daylight as possible. Golf is much easier to play in the light, rather than in the dark. Of course, my mind could be changed if golf courses installed lights.

Over time, I've started leaning more toward that standard time should be permanent, but I'm fine either way with keeping one or the other permanent.

Should split the difference at 30 minutes and make that permanent.

Given that it unanimously passed the senate it’s almost impossible to imagine it won’t happen.

Here’s the MHK graph from Weatherspark.  If we go full daylight savings the winter months shift up inline with the rest of the year.  If we go full standard time, the summer months shift down inline with the winter.
