that fifth place finish got us an 8 seed in the tourney and we returned everyone but jamar. once all the players decided to stick around, i guess i just assumed everyone thought we'd prob be a little better this year regardless of the coach. maybe that wasn't the case.

this really is like the golden age of following kstate sports though. the cotton bowl last year. the heisman and national champ run this year. kicking out your basketball ball coach because some of the players didn't like him and he cursed a lot. replacing him with a guy that just got fired but is liked by players and does not curse a lot. ncaa tournament every single year. just so much going on to like and talk about. good thing gE got in before the huge rush so we can buy low/ sell high, retire, etc.

Well, the apo just changed their rules in lithium and it makes a big difference.

I thought you were calling him a robot. Like that he needed lithium batteries. I really did think that.

i don't see the connection between robots and lithium batteries but hey, i'm not a robot-head like you are 33, also i'm not from the future, maybe you are?  dunno but the reality is that you're claiming robots take lithium batteries and it seems like you really know your stuff so i'll just defer to you on this topic from this point going forward.

wait. was there anyone that thought we wouldn't be pretty darn good this year? i'm confused.

I think this has become the official goEMAW stance.  yes.  But, I'm confused by it.  If oscar coaches like he coached at Illinois, we should suck just like his Illinois team sucked, no?

oscar's issues at Illinois were not due to talent.  Just in the last 3 seasons leading up to his firing, he signed 9 4* players - recruiting classes were routinely in top 25.

oscar's biggest issues were that his teams quit on him and several posters say that he isn't a good in-game coach because he's too inflexible.

So, though we've got some good talent on this team (just like oscar's teams at Illinois), why are we convinced that this team will be "pretty darn good" (i.e. team won't quit on him mid-season or oscar won't coach us to several losses)?

Despite the high rankings, he did a poor job selecting talent at Illinois. Also, it's difficult for anyone to ruin a roster that had pretty good success and so many minutes returning.

I hope so clams.  I hope so.  I hope its a lighter shade of purple, rather than the deep purple that sometimes looks blue on TV.

You might be right.  And there is a lot to be said for getting the right players, right chemistry.

But, again, we have to assume that this current team is as likely to quit on oscar mid-season as any of oscar's Illinois teams, no?  And we also have to assume that oscar is the same, shitty in-game coach as he was at Illinois.  So, given these assumptions, why are we convinced that this '12-'13 team is going to be really good?

I don't think team after team quit on him, just his last one.  People don't disapprove of Weber because he can't coach a successful season.  Obviously he can.  People disapprove because he's proven that, given time, he's made his program progressively worse.

Also, the fact that he passed on Rose makes me believe that we have absolutely zero shot at getting another truly elite guy in here until oscar is gone.

Play the game or don't coach the game, oscar.   :shakesfist:

I've never complained about oscar's teams "quitting" on him. As far as I know, all his bad teams were just bad. I only know about the "quitting" last year because he's told everyone about it.

yes. i think that people are expecting history to repeat itself. he did well at illinois with players that were recruited by and played for a previous regime and then the wheels fell off after a couple of years when the team was full of players that had been recruited and coached solely by oscar. but i'm pretty sure belvis already knows this and is just trying to be funny with the uncle jesses and the cut it outs and all of that plus aunt becky.

I've always said that there are two main types of coaches.  There are those who inherit someone else's good players and have some success but then fail when those players move on and are left with only their own players.  And then there are those who don't do that.

Angel alone will keep oscar in the NCAAs with what is on the roster (the crappiness of the Big 12 will help here too).

The most successful season he had once Self's recruits departed was when Chet was running his team.  This is true for most programs but it appears oscar really needs a good pg to win.

I'm not trying to be funny.  Fact is that oscar's crap teams in Illinois were more talented on paper than this KSU '12-'13 team.    Yet, we're convinced that this year we'll be really good, completely convinced that these players are immune to the pussified, chicken nuggets-faced, nice guy culture brough in by oscar.  Why are we convinced that we won't lose several close ball games, and piss down our legs to go 19-15.

Because aside from Rodney, we're not an incredibly talented team.
