Why is Alabama's mascot a hippo? Hippos aren't native to North America.

Did Bear Gryls, Alabama's famous head coach, own a pet hippo or something?

Man, you guys keep making up these names. Rohan was a place in that movie about the rings which didnt come out till about 2003ish. That would make any kid named after a place from that movie at most 9-10 years old.

My guess is they contacted a witch doctor whom instructed them to adopted a mascot that was equally at home in the water. None of those mouth breathers could spell salamander, so they went with hippo.

Boy would we look silly even trying to make fun of them for a hippo mascot, if Katrina would have been a hundred miles to the east.

Nobody has been much help so far. I think we can all name a bunch of players who have exhausted their elgibility, I need some current players so I know what to watch for in the game this Saturday.
