Some thought that ESPN's actions didn't have anything to do with verification, but that they just didn't care about the story if there wasn't a good way they could present it on television. They wanted to have on camera interviews and stuff. To me, that seems pretty consistent with their usual priorities.

There are potential civil suits that could be brought if someone were bold enough. Mostly though, I just mean trouble with the media/public. People won't attack him as much if they see a troubled, gay man who was molested as a child. There are too many excuses and delicate social issues at play that it will go away for him fairly quickly

I don't even care anymore, but I think he's just an idiot who was duped, then was embarrassed and wanted the Heisman so he lied about it after he figured it out. It's the worst of both worlds, really.
