I know a couple of people who can do it, but I've never been able to get anything.

I am pretty decent at it.  90% of it is scouting out the machine.  Also, you get what the machine allows you to get.

Well, yea.  Even if you win its worth less than the .50 you put in.

I once saw an explanation that these are set to payout every X number of tries.  So you scout the machine and watch dozens of other people try, you figure out that it pays out every 8th time, then when the 8th time is up, you run up there and give it a try.  Seems like a waste of time to me.

At a bar in Chicago I once saw a claw machine in a lobster tank.  If you caught a lobster, they would cook it for you.

Never. My 6 year old cousin is some sort of claw machine savant, I've seen him win 3 times.

The trick is to operate in 2-man teams.  You have your claw operator, should be someone with a pulse, can follow directions, and hasn't had too much caffeine.  The 2nd man stands on the left/right side of the machine so he gets a better angle at the claw drop and position, he needs to be vocal, and confident.  Team works together to put the claw in premium position.  This is how you beat a claw.

I just got a mental image of CK7 working the controls at zuckey bowl while Snyder confidently says "Just a little more the right, good now back .5, looking good....You got it, way to go youngster, Shalin is gonna love that plush animal"

Pretty much verbatim except swap out Snyder with RickRampus and CK7 with whatever lackey I can find.

had a friend that could win every time.  might not get something great but he could pick out things that the claw could pick up even in its weak setting.

Last time I used one I mumped around w/ the claw too much and time expired before I could push the button that made it descend. I vowed from that day forward, no claw machines, ever again.
Where did you get that overnight bag?
