Was he really that good?  I was never all that impressed.

Our options were him or "Sophomore from Topeka".... I would go ahead and take Bender

So, we're officially moving Sams to WR, then?

I meant for 3rd string/future backup

I remember Ell as a FR/SO. There is still hope for Sams.

And to think how passionate the tired ass tuck next to me at the spring game was about bender's skin color....went on about it for like 30 minutes.  "Is he white?  Is he black?  I can't tell."

Poor guy will just never know.

Got it.

I think Bender might have been pretty good. I liked his arm. He wasn't the athlete that Sams is, but athletic enough.

Topeka is a slightly more athletic, but smaller version Schwinn. Snyder likes to have those guys, but he's not a serious QB candidate. We had a pretty good competition for the future with Bender/Sams, so its disappointing to lose him.

I agree with this. It would be nice to have some assurance that 3 years from now, when we are a top 5 team and Sams goes down with a minor injury, more athletic, smaller version Schwinn wouldn't be the guy we have to stick in there to lose at home to Marshall.

I wish this was the case.

It sounds more like Bender didn't like football as much as we (and his dad) wanted him to like it.

Oh man, I can't think of an easier car to steal than a RCPD car.

hilarious that bender's dad just blatantly lied to GPC.

More hilarious that those gullible idiots honestly believe that stuff.

i'm pretty proud of bender for quitting. spaghetti brains or not, life is too short to spend four or five years of it doing something that you absolutely hate. good luck, spaghetti brains.

ADMIN

Just spoke to Bender's father

I always feel bad bugging parents (considering I've called him something like 10 times since yesterday morning), but Jeremy Bender has been extremely cordial the two times he has answered and, in both instances, he says the rumors about Tay are news to him.
Yesterday afternoon, after leaving him a handful of voicemails, Jeremy called me back here at the PI office shortly after Lincoln Southwest football coach Mark King told our own D.Scott Fritchen he hadn't word a word about the developments with Tay. Like King, the elder Bender seemed both surprised and confused by the reasoning behind my phone calls.

"I really don't have any idea about anything," Jeremy Bender said yesterday. "Why don't you fill me in on what you're hearing."

After I told him about the rumors swirling around town, he continued to insist he was unaware of the situation and told me he'd call me back once he found out.

Fast forward to today and I still hadn't heard back from Mr. Bender, so I dialed him up once again.

This time, I was lucky enough to have him answer on the first attempt and upon asking him what the latest update was with his son, the father replied, "I have found nothing that leads me to believe any of the things you told me yesterday or are still hearing today are true."

So, long story short, according to Tay's dad, he's still in Manhattan and part of the Wildcat football team.

Now, that's not to say that what was going around yesterday didn't necessarily happen in one way, shape, or form. All it tells me is that if Tay was going to quit and/or leave, things have changed.

That, or I'm being led to believe something entirely false.... but we'll all find out the truth on Saturday I guess, when LHC LHC Bill Snyder opens his doors for Fan Appreciation Day.

You return a quarterback who had a very successful year last year, but a lot of folks want to know who's next. If you get in a situation where you get to put a backup in during this game, who's next in line for you?

Snyder: "Well, right now, anyway, and I don't know if it'll hold true during the course of the season, but as we speak, it'll depend upon the situation in the ball game. I'm not going to define those right now, but there's certain situations in which Daniel Sams would be next in line, and certain situations in which Sam Johnson will be in line. It just kind of depends upon where we are in the ball game and what the circumstances are. It'll be one of those two right now."

So, this clearly means that if they want to run the ball, Sams is in (whether ahead or behind), and if they need to pass (i.e. so far behind that they have no hope but to pass), they go with Johnson.

I don't think so. I think it means that if we have a comfortable lead, Snyder will play Topeka to keep Sams hungry. He will only play Sams if he needs his QB to make plays to win the game.

How can you spin: "We will either play Sams or Topeka. It will depend on the situation" into "LHC Bill Snyder is a rough ridin' liar?"

It's another scheme from the scheme doctor.  His answers are always so long and drawn out and filled with misdirection and misinformation that you forget what the hell the original question even was (or quit caring).  I had to read that response twice to figure out what the hell he was saying, which was pretty much "Go eff yourself bad person, you don't need to know."
