http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/68809/sleeper-picks-across-the-big-12

Colleague Travis Haney examined overlooked teams, players and trends across the Big 12 , identifying sleepers all over the place.

His "sleeper" Big 12 title pick: Kansas State. Haney likes Kansas State's ability to not beat itself and the favorable schedule that includes home games against Baylor, Oklahoma and TCU, even though the Wildcats have to go on the road against Oklahoma State and Texas.

I just don't see it. If I were identifying a sleeper, I'd definitely go with Baylor. It's hard for me to see a team with so much inexperience defensively being good enough to compete for a Big 12 title. I've written it countless times because it's true: You can't win a Big 12 title without a good defense. K-State's won't be horrible, but a finish in the top half of the Big 12 is difficult to see when you're replacing an entire defensive line, an irreplaceable linebacker like Arthur Brown and both cornerbacks.

LHC Bill Snyder's done some amazing work, and it's not hard to see K-State making a run at 10 wins, but repeating as champions is a stretch.

He's been rather anti K-State this year. Probably tired from everyone else in the media loving us so he wants to be different.

How does this affect his stud/pud ratio?

Depends. If he comes back to the cats and turns out he was just trying to shake some of the loose ends off the bandwagon: Super stud

If he continues to ride this streak and is super serious: Pud.

Predicting the 2013 season: Week 4

By David Ubben | ESPN.com

Last season we began this exercise. Here's how we did last season. Not terrible, but certainly some room for improvement.

We'll move forward again this offseason by making preseason picks for every single game on the Big 12 schedule. By the end of it, you'll see our full projections for each team in the Big 12 in 2013.

More Big 12 predictions for 2013.

Texas Tech 44, Texas State 17: Tech went down to San Marcos last season and played a complete game against a hyped Bobcat team. The Red Raiders look good again against the FBS newcomers and make it look easy. Big day for Eric Ward.

Louisiana Tech 24, Kansas 23: The Bulldogs have a new coaching staff and lost a ton of starters, but the new faces make enough plays to put Tech over the top. KU's James Sims goes over 100 yards, but Kenneth Dixon is too much for the Jayhawks' defense in the second half.

West Virginia 37, Maryland 31: Stefon Diggs puts on a show against the Mountaineers' secondary, but Clint Trickett and Kevin White hook up for two scores. That pushes WVU over the top for a big win.

Texas 31, Kansas State 30: Step 1 of the Longhorns trying to get over the hump in the Big 12 is beating K-State. Texas gets it done in Austin this time with a big defensive stop in the final minutes. Joe Bergeron scores twice and Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray rack up a combined 175 yards on a green Wildcats defensive line.

Baylor 51, Louisiana-Monroe 24: Last year's 47-42 Baylor win was a little too close for comfort, but this Baylor team is a whole lot better. A strong start and a couple turnovers from Kolton Browning in the first half give the Bears a more comfortable win against the Warhawks.

Current Big 12 standings:

1. Texas 4-0 (1-0)
2. Oklahoma 3-0 (1-0)
2. TCU 3-0 (1-0)
4. Oklahoma State 3-0
4. Baylor 3-0
6. Iowa State 2-0
7. Kansas 2-1
8. Kansas State 3-1 (0-1)
8. Texas Tech 3-1 (0-1)
8. West Virginia 3-1 (0-1)

Meh.  Looks to be that it might be about right actually.  The cowboys are going to be an absolute handful for our defense.

Interestingly enough, that's almost an exact mirror of the score from the game last season.

No way they holds us 30, it will be a hell of a shoot out. We are a bad match up for OSU.

Ubbs maybe redeemed himself slightly for saying this

Changing tides? Oklahoma and Texas haven't represented the Big 12 in a BCS bowl since the 2010 season, because Oklahoma State and Kansas State captured league titles the past two seasons. It's the first time since 1999 that Oklahoma and Texas have gone two years without winning the Big 12 (no, I'm not counting Oklahoma's "shared" title). The competition level at the top of the league is rising. Texas and Oklahoma should contend, but Oklahoma State, TCU and Baylor will be in the mix again, and I wouldn't count out K-State, either. Expect lots of conversation about the national powers' place in the conference.
