Analysis: Vince and Ricky will be 1, 2 respectively, imo.

Crouch's snub is a shame.  If the conference only has 5 heisman winners, you better include all 5.

Austin checked in at number ten, and had 1932 total offensive yards, which included about 630 from rushing.  Crabtree had more yards receiving alone - against defenses that were probably better.  Ubben seems to love Austin because he was so versatile, and being able to rush and receive is definitely a nice thing to do, but Crabtree flat out accrued more yards as an offensive player.   Austin's numbers returning weren't bad either...he had two return TD's (1 PR, 1 KR), but he had 33 KRs, due mostly to the fact that WVU's defense was absolutely awful.  By comparison TLBL had 2 TDs off only 21 KR.

By no means am I saying that Austin isn't a great player, because he was.  He was a terrific WR, but putting him in at a RB and letting him gobble up yards doesn't necessarily make him more valuable to a team than Crabtree.  Crabtree was 5th in Heisman voting - Austin was 8th.  I'm only using Crabtree as a comparison here because he is (statistically) the best WR in Big 12 history, and he was left off the list.  But a strong case could also be made for guys like Bishop and Klein (who both finished 2nd in Heisman voting).

Like I said, Austin was a great player, but is probably a fringe top 15 player if we're talking about the history of the Big 12.

AD being high on the list is kind of suspect too.  He had a great freshman season, without a doubt the best freshman season any Big 12 player ever had, but in that season, he was arguably not even the best RB in the Big 12 - Cedric Benson won the Doak Walker that year.  He had fewer rushing yards than Sproles did in '03.  So I don't know.  Suspect.

I don't really take issue with any of the rest:

No. 3: Ndomukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
No. 4: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
No. 5: Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
No. 6: Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma
No. 7: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
No. 8: Jason White, QB, Oklahoma
No. 9: Roy Williams, S, Oklahoma
No. 10: Tavon Austin, WR/KR/RB/PR, West Virginia

oh man, saving this post to read when i have "more time" - that's tonight folks!

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

That son of a bitch says Seastrunk is the best RB in the league.  THAT CLOWN DIDN'T EVEN MAKE 3RD TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE AND THE CONFERENCE RETURNS A FIRST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE RUNNING BACK (HUBES).

just makes me so mad sometimes.

He's right, Dlew12. Ubben doesn't have to pick somebody worse than Seastrunk as his best back this year just because Seastrunk wasn't the best last year.

But that doesn't stand to reason.  If the best back last year is returning then he should be the best back until further notice.

Randle, the other first teamer, went to the NFL. So the crown remain on Hubert's glorious corn-rowed head.

thanks for the fun read Dlew.  I would put Sproles and Quentin Griffin on this list over AP and Tavon.  Griffin is overlooked because of his stats aren't out of this world, but he was huge playmaker for OU in big games, something a guy like Cedric Benson never was.  Benson never ran for over 100 yards on OU or KSU, I have always thought of him as a rich man's Josh Scobey.

Although I wholeheartedly disagree with you, that's an interesting take re. Griffin.

The way Seastrunk ended last season was a thing of beauty. He clearly has the best tools of any running back in the Big 12, and Ubben is putting more stock on potential than past results. Anybody can set predictions by looking at last year. Ubben makes the big bucks to connect the dots and make accurate predictions for next year. Don't forget when he called KSU "the darkest horse of them all" and ended up being dead on and making all of his colleagues look silly in the process.

Didn't Seastrunk have like 200 yards against us last year?

Predicting teams' finishes is totally different than saying who the best rb in the league is.  The "darkest horse of them all" prediction depended on a ton of variables: Who we had returning (Brown, Harp, no CCQ, etc), who the rest of the league was returning, scheduling, (OU at home) etc.  Seastrunk ended last season red hot, but he was nowhere to be seen outside of his last 5 games, largely thanks to Briles.

The point remains, Hubert was first team all big 12 as a junior, and it stands to reason that he will do the same as a senior, especially with the line we have returning this year.

Sams in the backfield with home run speed will also add to Hubert's effectiveness.

If we win 9+ again Hubes will be right there, and deservedly so.  If the question is who is more talented, you can't argue agains the guy who runs a 4.3 and averaged 8 yds a carry last year.

I think Ubbs is taking into account the fact that Daniel will lead the team in rushing this year. His emaw is next-level.
