I wonder if anyone remembers that Texas game when Klein started and nobody knew who he was and he ran and ran and ran and ran and ran and then finally threw the ball and everyone laughed so he ran again.

It really seems like people are being serious about thinking that Sams has a strong arm.

Bill has said he does. It's looked strong in his limited attempts. You think he doesn't?

No, not at all.  Not much stronger than Klein.  I'll see if I can find some clips and look closer.  I'm curious.

I don't think Klein has a weak arm, either. I haven't seen enough of Sams to say he's got a stronger arm than Klein, but he has a much faster release. I think he will end up being a much better passer.

It seemed like Bill had the shackles on him, and he was nervous as balls.

 :sdeek:

You are thinking of the wrong Bill on this one....

Sams prolly figured if he threw full strength, the ball would get stuck in the receivers face mask being they're used to CK

Klein has thrown into enough windows that people should by now stop confusing throwing motion with arm strength.  That WVU game was an arm strength clinic in the redzone.  The Thompson TD and Harper TDs were great.

As for Sams, seeing it live, it appeared that those passes had very good zip to them.

Klein's arm strength is very average.  Most QBs can make the throws he makes.

I would argue Klein has slightly above average arm strength. But it really isn't important and its really a matter of opinion.

MIR is right. Mechanics != arm strength.

Klein this year is one of the more accurate passers we have IDC about his strength though it looks to be average to slightly better than average. Sams has a prettier motion and more strength but it will be hard for him to be more accurate than Klein's 70% with 2 ints.

Just out of curiosity, is this your arm strength or total package comparison?

Arm strength and delivery, mostly. But it's pretty good as a complete package IMO.

Much better is approaching Robert Griffin territory, and unlike Griffin, he's not a whiney pussy.

Pfft. Klein is throwing for over 70% and has the highest QB rating in college football. Beasley never threw over 50% and had 7 INTs in '99 and 10 INTs in '00. Beasley averaged 3.3 yards per rush in '00, whereas Klein averages over 5. Klein is better than any QB we've ever had, and it's not even close.

Senior years:
Klein: QB rating - 174.6 / Completion % - 71.1% / Yards per rush - 5.1
Bishop: QB rating - 159.6 / Completion % - 55.6% / Yards per rush - 4.2
Beasley: QB rating - 132.1 / Completion % - 49.8% / Yards per rush - 3.3
Roberson: QB rating - 143.2 / Completion % - 51.7% / Yards per rush - 4.3 (he did average 5.1 during his jr. year though)

You can bring up the talking point that the defenses are worse in the Big 12 now, but come on. Looking at these numbers, Klein is BY FAR the leader in passing stats, and averages almost a yard more than every one of our previous QB's except for Roberson in his junior year. Stop living in the past and recognize that we have the best K-State QB of all time playing for us right now.

Great post.

And I agree with the Ell-#life comparison. #life has a great chance to be very good, but he will have growing pains next year.

yes, and our dumbass fans will inevitably turn on him at some point calling for the new Iowan to see some time because he's obviously much smarter and has a better grasp of the offense.

No, there is a gigantic gulf between Klein's passing ability and Griffin's. Klein puts up his numbers while the defense is loading 8-9 players in the box to stop the run. Griffin put up his numbers against defenses geared to stop the pass.

RG has a strong arm by NFL standards.  Sams appears to have an average arm by college standards  God bless KState fans.  PULLEN TO THE NBA!
