Huh. Well the one time I had gates it came off as kinda sweet to me instead of vinegary. When I had Carolina bbq the vinegar kicked me in the face comparatively.
Agree that Gates is somewhat sweet...

Gates barbecue sauce does NOT contain molasses, and the ingredients, as listed on the bottle, are: "Tomatoes, vinegar, salt, sugar, celery, garlic, spices, and pepper. 1/10 of 1% potassium sorbate preservative added." It is available in Original Classic, Mild, Sweet & Mild, and Extra Hot varieties.

kc sauce is tomato based
carolina is vinegar based
big difference, no mistaking the two. anyone who has had carolina sauce wouldn't call what we have in kc, the same category. carolina is basically vinegar with rub/seasoning in it.
