Time for the only Utahn on this board (that I'm aware of) to set the record straight.
BYU Roadies - Stay in downtown SLC and take the train to Provo for the game. Minimize time in Utah County and you will have fun. Hang out with UofU crowd if looking for a college experience.
Bars & Liquor Laws - No more private club stuff. There are two kinds of liquor licenses. A limited service license (most restaurants) means patrons must order food to get a drink and Zion Curtain is required unless grandfathered in. Zion Curtain is a 7 ft partition blocking drink preparation area from the dining area, essentially no visible bar to "protect the kids". A full service license requires 21+ to enter (will scan ID) but no food required and no Zion Curtain. Metered dispensing is required to limit booze to 1.5 oz in a mixed drink. No beer over 4% ABV may be served on tap, only from bottles. Grocery/convenience stores sell only 4% ABV beer or less. Anything stronger plus wine and liquor is sold only in state owned liquor stores with no coolers and limited locations, hours, and selection. One exception to the state stores is breweries can have a packaging license that allows them to sell there own stuff cold. Know the rules and you can still get plenty pak'd.
Mormons - They do drink caffeine, just not coffee or tea. Lots of "Mormon Starbucks" places around (fountain drinks & cookies). None of the above laws get changed because the church releases a statement saying the laws are fine any time there is discussion of change. Then all of the Mormon legislators shut it down.
I bet if you ranked the states from 1-50 in most likely to have the best time of your life partying, Utah would finish in the bottom 3.
Maybe so but if you ranked them by best vision questing possibilities it would be top 5. That's what makes it great despite all of the crap above.
