$1 off all pints, well cocktails and wines.

Not bad, could be better. I went to one in South Dakota and they had half price all pints on tap.

When I went to the game at Auburn we arrived in town and went to get some beers. We asked some people where the closest liquor store was and off we went. When we arrived we were shocked to find absolutely no beer. We asked the guy at the counter where the beer was and he gave us the Stupid yankee look "This is a liquore store son, if you want beer you need to go to the grocery store"

Apparently Alabama has some weird laws where only state run Liquor stores can sell hard alcohol, beer is only available in grocery stores.

In Pennsylvania, you can buy liquor at liquor stores, but have to go to the local state ABC warehouse to buy beer. Just cases of beer stacked randomly on pallets. I think you can also order beer to go from restaurants, though.

simple question  is liquor more expensive in Missouri or Kansas?

In KC, liquor tends to be ~10% cheaper on the Missouri side than on the Kansas side. Good to live near the state line.

As for the happy hour, we may see better prices for a few hours, but I'm going to miss some of the mid-week all-day specials. Taking off work early on Thursday to hit the $1.50 beer special on the patio about 2 pm was a good time.

Gotta be careful with this. It's illegal to take alcohol across state lines (Old prohibition law, I think) and there will be cops all over state line just waiting to slam a Kansas license plate with a felony for bringing a delicious 12-pack of Natural Light across the border.

I'm all for happy hour and any other relaxing of service laws that don't directly affect existing local small businesses negatively.  These are two very different issues.

in the 70s KS was notoriously hardass about it's liquor laws and would prohibit airlines from serving booze on planes while traveling over KS.  KS was also the first state to pass a prohibition law and didn't end it until 15 years after national prohibition was repealed.

that's how it is in new york.  wine and spirits at liquor stores, beer at supermarkets/convenience stores.  8am to 4am.  lol at not selling for 4 hours.

I once lived in a "dry" KS county for a year and when I first moved there I drove around for like an hour trying to find a liquor store but there were none.

However, you're right in that this was once in effect. I've heard old stories of enforcement agents who would wait in the parking lot of a Missouri liquor store just across the state line and follow KS plates back across the line to bust them.

Vern Miller was the Kansas AG who notoriously enforced the liquor laws. According to one story, he boarded an airplane bound for Wichita and when the crew served drinks over Kansas airspace, he arrested them. He definitely did the same on an Amtrak train.

Grocery stores won't be selling liquor or wine any cheaper than the liquor stores. That will be one line of products they can sell at a higher profit margin, which is probably what drove this decision. There are still plenty of liquor stores in states where liquor and wine can be sold at grocery and mini-marts/gas stations. There may be a few liquor stores hurt that are close to grocery stores, but, overall, liquor stores will do just fine.

Costco liquor prices are fantastic.

They have THE lowest tobacco taxes in the country.

i'm right in the middle on this. i agree with jw that i hate laws getting changed that screw with small business owners negatively and retroactively but at the same time those folks had to have known that this was a possibility for the last ten years but they still rolled the dice. their choice.

I'm right in the middle too.  I have a good friend that owns a liquor store and he said one of the options they're tossing around in legislation is capping the number of licenses and letting current license holders sell their licenses.  that seems pretty fair to me.  make the krogers and hy-vees of the world get in a bidding war and write huge checks to the mom and pop liquor store owners for their license.

how so? liquor store owners got into the business under one set of rules.  if legislators decide to change the rules in the middle of the game, they should be compensated. those in the best position to compensate them are the ones that stand to benefit most from the rule change. regulating liquor and alcohol so heavily is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) in the first place. if they're going to do it, the least they could do is let the market decide how much each license is worth.
