The only difference between Frank Martin and oscar Weber is that one of them is an bad person.

This is great news.

This was literally, word-for-word, going to be my post.

you have to admit hearing them love the crap out of oscar feels good

Dude, have you not paid attention?  This is the least surprising and most predictable thing ever.  Coach oscar isn't the guy that will have players dislike him. I'd be willing to bet he's never had a player go on record with horrible things to say about Coach oscar.  He is the type of coach that will tell you atta boy and then take you out for chicken nuggets.

Even players who feed off of screamers won't be pissed at the easy going guy.  No one ever doubted whether or not the team would buy in.

It's only great news if "passes" doesn't include lobs to JO.

Part of me worries that all our guys like the change simply because it is the off season and there isn't anyone around calling them selfish pussies.

I mean, I am sure they feel like they are playing well, but they are playing against other guys on the team who are just happy someone isn't around calling them selfish pussies.

I just don't know if all this happy is going to translate to a better team.

What happens when they finally play a team full of people who have someone calling them selfish and weak all off season and it blows up in their face?  What then?  I mean, other than oscar throwing them under the bus, what then?

I always loved it in grade school when I'd show up to class and there would be a substitute teacher.  Those were some of the best days ever.

The only thing I keep thinking about is how interesting it's going to be to watch a bunch of players who have (mostly) shown limited ability to jump shoot play for a coach who loves jump shooting. Maybe they'll be better at it since their legs won't be tired from grueling practices and playing defense and escaping house fires.

I'm sure they'd all rather have it. But some of them make up for not recruiting great shooters by playing gritty d and pounding the o-boards. Not sure Weber will emphasize those things to the extent necessary. But Southy and Sprads and Irving will no doubt push us to victory with their outstanding jump shooting.

The answer to your question is that oscar has to have an enforcer as an assistant coach.  The only question is who will that be--will it be Lowery?  Frazier?  Will oscar be able to enforce a discipline that when a player comes running to him, he tells them they're crying to the wrong cat, and re-direct them back to the enforcer?  So many questions, so few answers.

“I told Frank, ‘You know I’ll never be mad at you. You have to do what you think is right for you and your family,’” Rodriguez said. “But then after I said that I had to think about myself. As much as I love him, I just didn’t want to sit out a year and everything was really looking good here. There was really no reason for me to leave.”

Is it just me, or does this quote make it seem like Frank asked Angel to come with him to SC? Isn't that a major violation? Shouldn't SC be on like 15 year probation or something?

Frank and Hugs both basically depend on good jumpshooters.  The rebounding and defense help things outu when we have crappy shooters, but both coaches depend on jumpshooters, especially jumpshooters who can create their own shot.  Or maybe im wrong.

“They are nice people. I like their system. It just seems like we are going to enjoy playing for Coach oscar and his people.”

"oscar was a nice person and he deserved a chance. That’s why we decided to stay.

“I think it will be a great system for me,” Rodriguez said. “That’s actually one of the reasons why I stayed. They are different type of coaches. Coach Frank was a little bit more aggressive. They both have great philosophies. They both have good things. But I think Coach oscar will be, I guess, more flexible at times and let us play a little bit more.”

Angel stayed. I know this and am eternally grateful. Nothing about a coach being nice, or players staying simply because he is nice, reassures me at all.

Nice will be nice for the tucks next year when the team is winning.

Nice will not be nice for the players under the bus, or the lack of winning that is coming.

Sorry... I got all excited when I saw this article that Angel would give some insights about oscar's offense and give me some kind of substantive reason for optimism. All I got was "I haven't been around him much, but he's nice... oh and he likes guards. That's cool"

Yes, let's be as negative as possible. That makes sense.

There is a valid argument that's been made that those who are used to Frank's style of coaching would be relieved by an approach that is far softer. The conclusion can very reasonably be that these quotes from Angel, JO, and co are in no way really indicative of oscar Weber's future success. But to try to turn it into a negative is just asinine. Sorry.

He can be as negative as he wants. It's fine if everything he says is negative and all his posts are negative and it's fine if he turns every little thing into a negative. You can't stop him.
