Pretty hilarious that the nicest building on KU's campus (The Oread) is in limestone.

A lot of buildings on KU's campus are in limestone.  It's where the rock chalk chant was derived from.

From Wikipedia:
The cult chant was first adopted by the university's science club in 1886. Chemistry professor E.H.S. Bailey and his colleagues were returning by train to Lawrence after a conference. During their travel, they discussed a need of a rousing yell. They came up with "Rah, Rah, Jayhawk, Go KU"[1], repeated three times, which later became "Rock Chalk Jayhawk, KU".
By 1889, "Rock Chalk"—a transposition of chalk rock, a type of limestone, that exists in Kansas, but only in the Cretaceous-age bedrocks of central and western parts of the state (more than 150 miles west of Lawrence)

What's your point?  That the limestone that the buildings are made out of came from rock that was 150 miles west of Lawrence?  Ground breaking stuff.

The Chant

KU's world famous Rock Chalk Chant evolved from a cheer that a chemistry professor, E.H.S. Bailey, created for the KU science club in 1886.

Bailey's version was "Rah, Rah, Jayhawk, KU" repeated three times. The rahs were later replaced by "Rock Chalk," a transposition of chalk rock, the name for the limestone outcropping found on Mount Oread, site of the Lawrence campus.

The cheer became known worldwide. Teddy Roosevelt pronounced it the greatest college chant he'd ever heard. Legend has it that troops used the chant when fighting in the Philippines in 1899, in the Boxer Rebellion in China, and in World War II. At the Olympic games in 1920, the King of Belgium asked for a typical American college yell. The assembled athletes agreed on KU's Rock Chalk and rendered it for His Majesty.

I mean, JFC, is there not a single thing anymore that isn't questioned and made into some pissing contest by Butthurt State fans?

Too bad your dumbass students ruined it by adding the "woooo".  It used to be an amazing chant.

i think it's pretty awesome of weiss to do this.
it doesn't make me think any better of him as a coach, i don't think he'll succeed in lawrentucky, but smushing his landlord is pretty funny.

Lawrence friend relayed a recent Weis story involving his living situation.

....frontbutt (fb) told Z he needed a place to live, so they set up a master suite at 10 grand/month ......Z agreed to pay the first 3 months, then Charlie could take it from there

....halfway into the 3rd month, fb, called the owners into his office and told them his wasn't to big on this 10 thousand dollar a month deal...........they thought maybe there was something he didn't like about the suite or whatever......so they offered to knock it down to 8

.......he sat back in his chair, slapped his belly, leaned forward and said "boys, i'm thinking about payin' nothin!........zero"

.......the owners exchanged looks and replied to fb by telling him that he can pay his rent on the 1st or find another place to live.....no hard feelings

true story

beaut

OMG, that's amazing if it's true.
Yes, slapping his belly and calling them boys makes this a potential top 10 goEMAW story.
the weiss oread hotel update (emaw elite readers only)

the hotel meeting was with the two owners : Tim Fritzel and Todd Sutherland

when weiss said "boys, i'm thinkin about doin this deal for zero"........he made a zero with his right hand, after slapping his belly :)

the story has now circulated through the downtown district business owners and patrons..........not a good sign when he is calling out two of the largest KU donors before coaching a single game

enjoy and your welcome :)

 :surprised:

The Oread is a budget hotel located in the city of Lawrence, Kansas, and it has 4 floors. The nearest airport is Lawrence Municipal Airport (Airport Code: LWC), a distance of about 3.8 miles from the hotel. This hotel has a total of 99 guest rooms.

There are several family restaurants close to the hotel, including Montana Mike's Steakhouse, Fifis Restaurant and Pool Room Bar & Billiards.
I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps, etc.

I don't know if KU is still paying Mangino.  It has been three years now, and we're rich.  LOL at a K-State fan bagging on KU's law school when K-State is too poor of a school to have one.  Also, Bill James, the creator of sabermetrics and the guy who Moneyball was loosely based on, graduated with an economics degree from KU.  It's a very good program.

I hate to be the one that breaks this to you but "money ball" as a theory didn't work.  But it did make a decent movie.
