Omaha Zoo
« on: May 28, 2021, 10:21:24 AM »
Looks like the Schreds family is going to be making a road trip to Omaha this weekend to go to the zoo.  Travelling Sat., go to zoo on Sun, come home Mon.  @steve dave, any pointers the zoo (or Omaha in general)? Good places to eat for a family of 3 with a soon to be 6 year old?

When I was in 6th grad, my middle school did a field trip to the Omaha zoo from Sioux City. We had a bus with TV's on it and watched the movie Ed starring Matthew Leblanc and a badass chimpanzee baseball player. I was super excited for this trip, because I just got a fresh new Nike shirt that I was wearing that day. Anyways, when we walked into the zoo, I immediately got pooped on by a bird and the total day was ruined. I was the butt of all jokes and I didn't recover from that catastrophe for a solid month. Be careful out there on those Omaha Zoo streets, schreds!

I'm sure it'll be packed and it makes for a long day for little ones if you try to get it all in.  If that's a concern, I would get a mp and prioritize

Get there before it opens. Hit the sea lions and indoor exhibits first.

Our kids liked doing that suspension bridge where you can walk over the river from Nebraska to Iowa. A nice lady made balloon animals for the kids at Spaghetti Warehouse (Works?) after we got done at the zoo (this was a long time ago, she may have gone home by now.)

Blatt is good downtown. The Old Market is a fun place to just walk around.

Gorilla exhibit is closed for remodeling which sucks bigtime. Do the aquarium, nocturnal exhibit, and jungle first thing because they are indoors with restricted paths and when it gets packed they suck crap. Outside parts less so.

UP rail road museum not bad.  They had a mystery murder thing there last time we visited at their union Station.

That places is cool. Went there with my dad in law two years ago when we were in Omaha to see the steam locomotive.

Well, just walked in the house from the zoo, frustrated by how much crap was closed or not on display. That little children's park behind the desert dome was nice tho. I don't think it existed last time we were there.

Wrapping up our annual Schreds Family memorial day trip.  Way more stuff open at the zoo this year than last.  Had 3 delicious seared ahi tuna tacos at Hook and Lime.  All around enjoyable trip.
