Chef j bbq

It’s in the bottoms where the haunted houses are. Used to be catering/preorder only. Now they open 1130-4 a few days a week.

I came across it on Facebook I think. Followed, all the pictures looked legit. During “quarantine” I told my wife that I wanted chef j for my birthday or Father’s Day or something

Any type of food. I don’t think there is really any variety of restaurant that I can’t get a version of here, so just looking for good. Could be family involved but likely not.

breweries:

- the biggest change that will have happened since you were last here is that Strange Days has a new non-trash brewmaster and their crap actually rules now. they also got rid of their parking lot and made it a patio.
- Torn Label expanded next door to a much larger space, and they now have a kitchen with a fantastic menu. and their beer is consistently top tier in kc. they've been super busy since they got the new space.
- Double Shift is still top dog. if they have the Mecha Shiva get that
- City Barrel has really leaned into the hazy game and they're very good at it. decent menu, a bit pricey imo
- Brewery Emperial now has shade on their patio. beer is average. fun spot if it's not super hot and also a good menu. i am a fan of fried pickles.
- Casual Animal also expanded to an adjacent space, and if it's not the best venue of any brewery in kc, it's certainly the prettiest. beers still average. i like going here.
- Nimble is located kind of behind double shift, they're pretty new and haven't figured out their beer yet. nice people though
- Stockyards is good just for a reason to get to the bottoms and have a cerveza royale
- Crane has taken huge leaps forward imo, and they apparently make very good bbq (it was sold out last time i went). Wilma's food truck was there though and it's wonderful. located in Raytown directly on the newly opened Rock Island rail trail. They have a lot of sours but have made some good hazies and stouts lately
- Big Rip (NKC) average beer, but at least they try fun stuff. good spot just over the river from Strange Days
- Cinder Block (NKC) they don't deviate much from what works, and it mostly does. nice large patio now. also it's right across the street from Restless Spirits (!) which has fantastic whiskey
- Calibration (NKC) trash
- Callsign (NKC) was p meh last time i was there but i should give it another try.
- Rock Creek (Mission) is fairly new so they are inconsistent but show a lot of promise. nice new patio
- Sandhills (Mission) i just am not a fan. i've tried two or three times and it has never worked for me

it's hard to believe that kc can sustain that many beer making places but maybe the overhead is p cheap once you buy all the equipment from the places that went out of business in seattle/portland/denver after the fad past through there?

Good summary.  Border is temp closed as they move east.  Red Sash taking their place.  That Casual Animal space is pretty awesome.  Also another brewery is coming to RM soon, River Bluff.  Their main location is St Joe.

i am concerned for all these breweries because zoomers don't like beer as much as millennials, but it could just be too early to tell
