If there is one thing that has been proven about Weis it's that once he gets his recruits in that's when his program really takes off.

The funny thing is that last year's Notre Dame team that went to the national championship was made up of a lot of former Weis recruits (including Manti Teo).

When Kansas University athletic director Sheahon Zenger someday decides to give Memorial Stadium a makeover, it won’t be at the request of new football coach Charlie Weis....

pretty much isnt happening for at least 5 years. and by that time ku could be in the big 10

posting again because ultimately this is what will happen. still seems incredibly small timey

I'm almost 100% sure that KU will add an additional set of suites to the East side of the stadium and spruce up the facade a little bit.  Zenger and BGL have done an amazing job with everything they've touched so far.  I couldn't be happier with the direction they're taking KU.

which direction is that? only thing i know that has happened so far is a crap ton of shredded paper
football (which is going to be improved next year as well), KU athletics has really been having quite a bit of success.  Once Weis gets his recruits, and the football stadium is finally renovated, KU is going to really have quite the setup.
Do you see why we take opinions from ku fans on most matters with laughter and knee slapping? You completely dodged my question with some drawings and talk of women's track. Football is the only part we care about beems, the rest of that post is fodder and bullshit and we have seperate boards for that.

I care about football too, and every indication is that KU will have an improved football team next year.  There's no sense in worrying about last year's pile of crap when we're about a month away from the upcoming season.  Anyone throwing the towel in on Weis after one year is an idiot.  Snyder went 1-10 in his first year at K-State.

 :dunno:

i dont care about last year either ben, you keep saying things are on the up and up. all im saying is prove it. tell me something, anything relevant to memorial stadium and renovations. at this point just let it die like the gridiron club or produce something other than pictures of ku's new track and field complex (which we couldnt give two fucks about) about 20k+ of us will be there again this year and i would like to tell my kids "dont worry next time we come back it will be a decent place for a game"

More than 20 percent of K.U. freshmen drop out during their first year. Regents believe requiring at least a 3.0 grade point average and ACT score of 24 will help eliminate putting students in positions where they fail.
All in efforts to solve a drop out problem.

Meanwhile, K-State continues to recruit any ol' 'tater who can walk and chew gum at the same time.

The regents also voted to raise tuition by 5.1 percent for undergraduates at K.U.
Tuition will increase by 5.5 percent at Kansas State University.

If I don't know you, or you're too much of a pussy to disclose your name to me personally, then you don't get to address me by my real name.  As for Memorial Stadium, if you can't enjoy a football game there, you're a total dork.  I've had multiple friends from K-State and other schools visit for a football game at KU, and everyone always has a great time (win or lose).

The reason I address the track complex is because it ties directly into the plans for the football stadium.  KU has a nationally ranked and relevant track program (unlike K-State), and we host the Kansas Relays at Memorial Stadium, so until the new complex is finished, that's just the way it works.  Kinda like how K-State hosts Harley Day at BSFS, so you guys have a black Harley track that supports the Harley riders.

http://fox4kc.com/2012/06/20/regents-approve-tougher-admissions-standards-for-ku/

Quote
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Tougher admission requirements are coming to University of Kansas. The Kansas Board of Regents today voted to raise admission standards at K.U. higher than those at the state’s other public colleges. The change is designed to boost graduation rates at the state’s flagship university.

In four years when this takes effect, incoming freshmen will need at least a 3.0 GPA or “B” average in high school to automatically get into K.U.

“It certainly raises rigor and expectations,” said Mary Viveros, implementation coach at Kansas City, Kansas public schools. “But we know that’s what it takes. Making it any easier doesn’t really help in the long run.”

On the K.U. campus new students are getting familiar with college life as part of orientation month. Peer adviser Kyle Boge says some freshmen just aren’t ready for the transition.

“There’s a lot of questions about how tough will this class be,” said Boge, a sophomore from Olathe. “If I’m in this thousand person class how is that going to work out? But really you can, if you’re motivated you can get through it and transition,” he said.

More than 20 percent of K.U. freshmen drop out during their first year. Regents believe requiring at least a 3.0 grade point average and ACT score of 24 will help eliminate putting students in positions where they fail.

“I think improving the university starts with the freshman experience and maintaining students for all four years is something that’s good for us,” said Marcus Tetwiler, a K.U. student from Paola.

Right now, there is no grade point average requirement to get into any Kansas college. Being in the top third of your high school class with an ACT score of 21 is all it takes. In the Kansas City, Kansas School District, only about a quarter of the graduates score at least 21 on that college entrance exam.

“It really is not only GPA but ACT score that’s a pretty good indicator of how well kids will do in school,” Viveros explained. “We really aligned ourselves with those ACT standards and college readiness benchmarks. That will be important to ensure kids will have skills when they get there.”

Prospective students who don’t meet the tougher standards can still have their applications reviewed by a committee. Students say help has always been available for those who are struggling.

“There are students that aren’t interested in that,” said recent K.U. graduate Sarah Coughlan. “They’re here to socialize or think they can not show up for class and just take the test, that’s not a strategy that works.”

The regents also voted to raise tuition by 5.1 percent for undergraduates at K.U.
Tuition will increase by 5.5 percent at Kansas State University.

Paola a 4A Kansas high school, the town where that ku student is from, also has a track around their football field.

thats all fine and great BMW I understand the reasoning for the wait but i thought you had already broken ground on the new track complex. are they waiting for it to be done before they even start planning on memorial? if so that is incredibly stupid

Track complex as of 7/29/13:

According to sources, KU has hired HNTB for its football stadium renovation.

Also, from phog.net:

Quote
I think this will be done in phases. Phase 1 lower field and add in seating. After talking to a couple of folks in the Williams Fund, what comes next will be interesting. I know they have looked at TCU, Minnesota, and Univ. of Washington recently. I think there will be the addition of a club level on the east side. Premium outdoor seating with an indoor area for gathering, food, drinks, etc. There has also been some talk of "loge" boxes as well. I've heard these from more than one person as well. Think of them as "mini-suites" 4-6 outdoor seats with a flat screen, wait staff. Check out Univ. of Minnesota's website for a look at those.

What will be interesting is the pricing/financing structure of any additions. The failed Gridiron Club was a financial disaster. There was no way that was ever going to work, even if we would have continued winning.

KU has hired HNTB for its master plan, not the stadium renovation.  2 separate things.  I'll pm you next year when/if they begin the selection process for an architect for the reno.

Sweet.  Thanks.

By the way, for anyone who's interested, here are Dr. Zenger's 2012 comments on future Memorial Stadium upgrades:

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2012/jul/12/ku-ad-zenger-memorial-stadium-changes-coming-just-/

Quote
“We will do something very special with Memorial Stadium,” Zenger said. “But we want to make sure we honor what we have, and we want to make sure we do it right, because we only get one chance.”

The point of contention for most includes removal of the track that surrounds Memorial Stadium’s playing surface. In order to do that, Zenger and company first need to complete the ongoing search for a new home for KU’s track programs. Until that is settled — something that seems to be drawing closer each month — nothing can or will be done to Memorial Stadium, Zenger said.

Even when that day arrives, Zenger made sure to emphasize that any changes to any of KU’s athletic facilities would be made with the idea of paying tribute to the past as a top priority.

“Our history is what makes us different at the University of Kansas,” Zenger said. “Whether it be our traditions or what we’ve done competitively, and whether it be in basketball, track and field or football, we have a rich, rich legacy at the University of Kansas. And we want to be very careful as we plan for the future that we always move forward without damaging that legacy.”

Zenger, who also made sure to point out that he and his department were excited about the possibilities and eager to get to work, compared the current Memorial Stadium conundrum to the uncertain future that faced the Jayhawks’ basketball facility not long ago.

“I think we would all regret had we, years ago, built some sort of coliseum or arena to replace Allen Fieldhouse,” he said. “And I also think we would regret doing anything to Memorial Stadium that does not maintain the significance of that stadium’s place in the history and lore of Kansas football and our commencement ceremonies. We have a historic stadium, and anything we do to that football stadium is going to honor what I think is one of the greatest locations in the nation for a football stadium. We have one of the true stadiums left in the Midwest.”

Zenger is the Paul Rhodes of athletic directors. He knows exactly what to say for the fans to lap it up.
