Zenger had to go take out a 30 year note from the Foundation Beems, nothing wrong with borrowing, but ku athletics clearly didn't have the cash.

No, that's butthurt K-State fan BS.  The project is being privately funded and leased back to KU so that KU can potentially have concerts and events there that will sell alcohol.

http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2013/apr/16/ku-officials-break-ground-rock-chalk-park-set-goal/

Quote
The Rock Chalk project — which KU officials have said would cost KU about $40 million to build, but is being constructed and financed by Fritzel and leased back to the university — will include several components:

• a 7,336-seat track and field stadium designed to receive the highest Class I certification from track and field’s international governing body;

• a 2,156-seat soccer field;

• a 1,037-seat softball stadium that also will include a 12,715-square-foot indoor softball training facility;

• about 4,500 square feet of locker room space for the facilities, plus concession stands and other guest amenities.

• about 1,500 paved parking spaces, with a large grassy area to accommodate overflow parking.

Zenger said KU officials will use the facility — particularly the track and field stadium that is expected to become just the fifth U.S. track to meet the top international standard — to host both conference and national events.

“We’re going to try to host any championship that comes our way,” Zenger said, “and that means all the way up to the NCAA Championships.”

Stanley Redwine, head coach of KU’s track and field and cross country teams, said he expects the new facility to be a regular host of the Big 12 Track and Field Championships and to receive strong consideration for national-level youth championships for events sanctioned by USA Track & Field.

“I believe Lawrence could be really huge with track and field,” Redwine said. “There already is an interest here, and now we’ll have the facilities.”

All I read is that some poor school is borrowing $40M to improve facilities in non-revenue generating sports.

Genius  :dubious:

LOL @ a fan of the poorest school in the Big 12 calling the 2nd-richest school "poor:"

i told you not to bring up endowments.  those dollars are spent.

No they're not.  A lot of times the donations just have restrictions on where the money can be spent.

KU has plenty of cash.  Much more than K-State.  Also, you're comparing a track complex to a football stadium.  Dipshit.

Making $XXXXXMM by spending 2 * ($XXXXXMM) makes your point hilariously stupid.

Across the board, we do WAY MORE, WAY MORE EFFICIENTLY, WITH CONSIDERABLY LESS.

In reading ku's various required financial reports it's not real clear as to where they got the nearly $9 million dollars to show themselves at the required minimum "break even" status athletic departments must be at in order to submit the their EADA report to the DOE, only to show a nearly $9 million dollar operational loss on the audited report.

FYI the combined operations of ku's men's and women's athletics per the FY 2012 EADA report showed a net operating loss of nearly $17 million dollars, which was made up in the nebulous "revenues not allocated to a specific sport".

KU allocates cash differently than K-State.  Has nothing to do with who is in a better financial position.  The number to look at is total athletic revenue, and KU has, and always will, generate more revenue than the little ag school on the prairie.

Looks like K-State hoards their cash within the athletic department.  KU's cash is mostly in the Williams Fund and Endowment Association.

So the Williams Fund is a wholly separate financial reporting entity from ku athletics?  Since it's a non profit, could you please point me to the audited Williams Fund financial report?

Oh, and K-State athletics keeps millions on accounts with the K-State Foundations as well (in funds marked unrestricted, temporarily restricted and restricted), but balances of those funds are specifically accounted for on K-State Athletics Inc. audited financial report.

why are you ignoring the post above that notified you that we too have separate "fund" and "endowment" entities?

Thing is, earnings are not retained to the balance sheets of those separate entities, if I'm not mistaken (don't think I am).

So why wasn't all this cash used on the Gridiron Club (coming 2010)?

Beems needs to chill out.  The crushing weight of our impending Triple Crown is driving him mad with rage.

Its not so bad being dominated by KSU in athletics.  Ask every other school in the Big 12.
