I've only attended one game at Memorial stadium but me and my buddies could not stop laughing about what a joke the stadium is. We laughed most of the game just looking around at the different aspects of the stadium. When I saw the speakers hooked up to the band on the track I laughed so hard I threw up.

The band speakers are fantastic.  In general, it's very similar to the game day experience at Shawnee Mission South in most respects.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

Aside from the cow pastures and sheep pens, my favorite part about BSFS is the black dirt track that they utilize on Harley Day.  Also, the port-o-potties

the editor of the LJ world says KU is close to awarding contracts on track removal, squaring the bowl, and other improvements to memorial. phog seems to think it'll be like a $200 million project.

As weird as it sounds I kinda hope KU is actually doing something, it might kick our donors enough in the butt to get through at least Phase IV before the sqwaks get to enjoy anything at Memorial Stadium. Competition is good.

How much was our entire project estimated at?

Also if this really would kick our donors face in and get them to donate more to the project then good. But I doubt it will tbh.

ku is already stretched making the new track and softball facility happen. track removal is likely, noticeable modifications to the stadium super structure are not. The stupid thing is concrete nightmare. Code has changed significantly, especially when it comes to concrete, and would make minor modifications extremely expensive.

I don't think they've estimated how much it will take to do all six phases because (CC correct me if I'm wrong) each phase will most likely be bid out separately, and they'll do different projects as they get the money.

At this point, based on what CC said, I'm guessing we're around $90 million between the Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3A stuff we're doing now.

KU's stadium is going to look odd if they remove the track and cover it with more turf.  I mean maybe they could add a putt-putt course between the bleachers and the sideline in order to get fans to stay a bit longer.  I'm sure excavating the field just to add more bleachers below is a large cost for little improvement.

They should go the family friendly route and hold little competitions like the T-Bones do.  You know, racing ppl out of the crowd while you hold a pitcher of beer, egg on spoon races, etc.

I mean, the T-bones are horrible baseball but the environment brings ppl in.   :dunno:

What's great is KU fans do everything they can to convince themselves otherwise. Watching them talk about how much better Memorial is compared to BSFS for gameday is fascinating.

They've many times, on the Phog, said that Memorial is one of the most picturesque stadiums in the country, no joke. I guess the view of "the hill" is sort of like the geographical equivalent of an average looking baby to its parents.

When KU was winning, the football stadium and the atmosphere at Memorial was awesome.  We would have friends from out of town down to the games, and they'd always tell me that KU's gameday was way better than K-State's.  Remove the track, square off the bowl, build the stands closer to the field, add a second set of suites to the East side, and update some of the concourses, and KU's stadium will be one of the better places to watch a game in the Big 12.  The view of the campus and the walk to and from the hill is something that programs like K-State just don't have.  You guys are surrounded by a parking lot in the middle of nowhere.  It's just not the same.

I'd change that to read "You guys are surround by a sea of tailgaters as far as the eye can see."

It's just one of the better pictures of the campus view.  The stadium actually looks better than that now with the new scoreboard.
