Weber/Self relationship
« on: April 19, 2012, 04:40:17 PM »
Is there any actual animosity between the two of them?  I heard about the funeral oscar had, but I just assumed that was a goofy stunt.  Is there any real hatred here?

The answer will go a long way toward helping me decide whether or not I jump on the oscar bandwagon.

TIA

I cannot imagine that a thought about oscar Weber has ever even fired across one of Bill Self's neuron.

Kind of like when he has to say nice things about Frank and the team at pressers. "They play so hard, blah, blah, blah..."

I don't care what Self thinks of oscar.  I'm just wondering if oscar will be like Frank and praise the hell out of Self or will he be more Norm Stewarty.

"What do you think about Coach Weber at K-State?" - reporter

"well golly, I I I enjoy grilling." - Self
Sometimes I think of the Book of Job and how God likes to really eff with people.

The moment "Bill Self is a cheating piece of crap" comes out of oscar Weber's mouth is the moment I will start supporting him and Currie.

My simple question is: Can I dare to dream?

I honestly think Weber will care more about Martin than Self now that he has moved on from Illinois.

Self will lay mushroom stamps all over Weber's body on a regular basis and Weber will thank him for it and ask for another, but only if Bill feels like it and it's not an imposition or anything.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

This is probably incredibly astute.

I heard about the funeral oscar had, but I just assumed that was a goofy stunt.

It was kind of an odd thing to do, but for all intents and purposes, it worked. From that point forward, the 2004 team played great basketball and set the table for 2005. If it was just that, I don't think it'd be an issue.

The problem is, he's put his insecurity about Self on display several other times, whether it's talking about how he gave him the business when he was at SIU or that his staff had do teach the players fundamentals that his predecessors omitted or how they had to be "real" coaches because the last staff was "buddies." It was awkward and uncalled for. I'm sure Self noticed and hasn't forgotten it.

Here is where things stood between Self and Weber in early August 2011:

Illinois had a basketball reunion weekend and invited former players and coaches. The reunion was Friday evening and the alumni game was Saturday evening. Self attended the Friday evening reunion, got together with former players late Friday evening, did a local radio show Saturday and left town before the alumni game.
