The area is a little sketch, so be safe if you leave the late show.

That's actually solid advice that I hadn't considered. We'll be taking the L back to the hotel and I know the L is pretty safe but I'm not sure how much we'll want to be out wandering around riding subways after midnight.

first time away from home?

It will take about an hour to get downtown via the El from midway.

L schedule says about 30 minutes.  I'll trust the L doesn't routinely run 100% late.  :dubious:

Also, I think we are going to hit up Second City.  They just opened their 100th revue tonight...which should be pretty cool.  The only question is the 8:00pm show or the 11:00pm show.  Do any experienced Chicagoans/Second City goers know if there's any difference in the quality/content of the two show times?  Other than I'll be more  :drink: by the 11:00 show and, as such, will probably  harder.

Depends mostly on the time of day. The El runs 100% late all the time, btw.

EDIT: And where you are going downtown. It takes over an hour to get to Navy Pier for instance.

SECOND EDIT: Why ask if you are just going to believe the schedule anyway. I only live here, why would I know?  ;)

LOL, Kat Kid's volumptuous wife was right.

The train does not take an hour to get from Midway to the Loop, and Second City is about as far away as you can get from a sketchy neighborhood .... unless you are incredibly intimidated by yuppies.

the big issue is that there is no close El or subway station.  IIRC we had to walk half a mile or more.

There's a brown line stop ~3 blocks away and a bunch of bus stops.

it's a 48 trip with my wife for our anniversary.  I'd like to get the most out of it.  I'd rather not spend an hour on the L just to get to the hotel or get on a shitty boat tour or end up eating shitty food.

I'm also going to scottsdale in mid may and new orleans in september with some guys and will do absolutely no planning for either of those trips other than maybe getting a tee time.  this is a little different.

I can only speak for RPM and Girl and Goat, but if you're trying to eat at either of those two (and probably the other two also), you're going to want to get a reservation asap.

Went to RPM earlier this week. Really tasty stuff, but really small plates. Kinzie Chophouse is really good and you might actually get a table this weekend

longman and eagle is great and also right off the blue line. anything in the avec/publican family of places plus avec doesn't take reservations so you can actually go unlike girl and goat etc. purple pig.
