To those complaining about Deb making half a million per year, here is a little food for thought.  Gail Goestenkors at Texas was making $1.25 Million per year and only made it past the first round once in the past five seasons.  In the same five years, Deb advanced to the second round three times and won an outright Big 12 championship.  Not to say she is without faults, but she certainly elevated our program from where it was in the decade before she got here.  I want the program to improve from where it is now and for her to land some high-level recruits.  The days of Ohlde and Wecker were a lot of fun.

How do you know all this stuff?

Ooooohhhhhh so edgy.  Some of you are more tuckish than you're willing to see.

Bonnie Hendrickson at KU currently makes $635,000 per year.  In 2009, she got paid $1.8 million, about $1.3 million of which was a bonus for making it through five years without getting fired for cause.  Poor performance is not considered cause.  She never made the NCAA tournament until this year as an 11 seed.  Here are her Big 12 coaching records:

2005:  5-11
2006:  5-11
2007:  4-12
2008:  4-12
2009:  6-10
2010:  5-11
2011:  6-10
2012:  8-10

Would you believe she got an extension, bonus, and pay raise in 2009?  We are living the high-life over here compared to those suffering through 8 years of Bonnie-Ball and genuinely overpaying for it.

i had no idea. this is a crime.

I'll bet she thinks she deserves it, god bless her heart.

You go, Deb!

Is she single?  I wonder if she would think I am her type? :fingerscrossed:

You are almost definitely her type.

What do you think would be the best way to approach her?  How do you woo a woman like Deb?

The Lord, Pete.  Our holy father who loves us all and would not allow the UCONN Huskies to humiliate and destroy Deb's team unless it was all part of his Plan.

This is going to be much more difficult than I thought.

I am going to need access to a live white dove, 30 pieces of unrefined silver, a lamb (preferably not a goat, but will work in a pinch), a circus tent, and if anyone knows of a person living with leprosy please shoot me a PM.   TIA

Be yourself Pete.  Deb believes in putting who she really is out there, and damn the critics.  What you see is what you get.

Also, she is a Christian and Christians believe that God reanimates the dead, much like the Walking Dead.  Have a chat with her about the similarities.  Maybe make a joke like "If your team could shoot half as good as Hershel did with that shotgun, you wouldn't have been humiliated so badly"  You know, light hearted stuff.

it blows my mind that any women's coach makes more than 200k per year, and I feel like I'm being generous with that number.

I enjoy it when we are good.  When we are only mediocre, I lose interest pretty fast.  This year I only made it to one game, but like I said before, the days of Ohlde and Wecker were pretty fun.

Great tips, will do.  Especially the part about the Walking Dead.  I am going to hint around about the Asian boy and Hershel's daughter...see if she catches my drift, if know what I mean.

The salary cap for an ENTIRE WNBA TEAM in 2010 was $827,000.  Deb makes almost as much as an entire WNBA team to coach our broke school to an 8 seed in the NCAA tournament.

You don't need to compare Deb to Bonnie to realize her value.  She's the only coach on campus, with multiple conference titles.  She is underpaid, and is giving her school a discount but these knuckle dragging tucks on here think its edgy to be misinformed and ignorant.

Not true dumbass.   Ever rough ridin' heard of soil judging?  Meat judging?  Debate?  Forensics?  Those teams compete at the very highest levels and have won NATIONAL championships.   Their coaches make a fraction of what Deb Patterson makes.

Who is misinformed now, you son of a bitch!

The short answer is yes.

However, I do think less of you for being a serious Women's basketball fan.  But, I have a very high opinion of you, so you are really not decreasing that much relative to others.

Let's just agree that it's technically "ok" for a reasonable person to be a serious women's basketball fan, but that every collegiate women's basketball coach in the world (cept for maybe 2 or 3) does not produce even half the value that they cost (they are crap investments), and are therefore basically like communist Russia, and we need to tear down that wall Mr. Gorbachev.

Also,  kinda serious about dating Deb...

First of all I can't spin what happened tonight.  WCB is now where MCB was in the 60s and 70s.  The talent pool isn't deep the best programs get the best players and there simply aren't enough good players right now for there to be any real parity.  Again that's no defense for a terrible performance.

As for Deb, she took a program that was a national embarrassment.  Deb and I started at KSU at the same time.  The first time I heard about K-State Women's Basketball was the season before she took over.  The program made Sportscenter, and this was sportscenter in its heyday.  The program was on because a coach named Brian Agler put the program on probation, he was crap canned and Jack Hartman had to take over.  Agler cheated and still didn't win.  Deb made the tournament that first season, while on probation.  She has made the postseason 13 out of 16 seasons.  She has won 63% of her games and two conference championships.  She doesn't and shouldn't get paid based on what some randos think she should make, she like every other college athletics coach, gets based on her industry standard.  Using the industry standard she is giving K-State a hometown discount, she should be praised.

She has accomplished more and makes more money for the school than Brad Hill.  No one watches college baseball, why aren't we subjected to college baseball ridicule and calls for him to make $30,000?  Cliff Rovelto hasn't made 26 cents for KSU, should he volunteer?

Bonnie has been plagued with injuries her entire time at KU, and has improved the program on a year-to-year basis since taking over.  The process has been slow, but KU was doing really well this year until our best player (Caroline Davis) went out with an ACL injury.  We play Delaware in the NCAA tournament tomorrow, so I'd say our season has been just as good as K-State's.  I doubt we'll set an NCAA record for lowest point total in an NCAA tournament game.

Deb's a good coach, no doubt.  All she has to do is beat KU and make the post season, and she'll have a lifetime contract.  That's pretty much the standard for every single head coach in K-State's athletic department.  Forget championships.  Just beat KU and don't miss the post season and K-State fans will be content.

I agree that both Brad Hill and Deb Patterson should make a salary that is in line with what they produce (which is jack crap).  They each coach sports that lose (collectively) millions of dollars. I do not give them "credit" for taking less at KSU, but that's mostly because I could give a crap whether their sports even existed.

I only care about the sports that make KSU money.   I dislike all the others, because they do not make KSU money (they do the opposite).

Also, I do not want to date Brad Hill.

I can tell 21-2 is just killing you.

Women's basketball is useless, the lesbian makes too much money

Ooooohhhhhh so edgy.  Some of you are more tuckish than you're willing to see.

Bonnie Hendrickson at KU currently makes $635,000 per year.  In 2009, she got paid $1.8 million, about $1.3 million of which was a bonus for making it through five years without getting fired for cause.  Poor performance is not considered cause.  She never made the NCAA tournament until this year as an 11 seed.  Here are her Big 12 coaching records:

2005:  5-11
2006:  5-11
2007:  4-12
2008:  4-12
2009:  6-10
2010:  5-11
2011:  6-10
2012:  8-10

Hey you rough ridin' sociopath, go away.  How sad is your life that you are seeking validation on a women's basketball thread on another schools board.

You seriously need to reevaluate the direction of your life.  Stop placing so much of your self worth on what strangers think about sports at a school you once attended.  Seek clinical help, seriously.

Deb Patterson just lost a tourney game by 50 points, do you care?

Let's try and keep the discourse civil, fellas.

The point of this thread is the giant gapping hole of crap into which we pour money, which is also called women's basketball (and every other sport that is not football or men's basketball).

I agree that both Brad Hill and Deb Patterson should make a salary that is in line with what they produce (which is jack crap).  They each coach sports that lose (collectively) millions of dollars. I do not give them "credit" for taking less at KSU, but that's mostly because I could give a crap whether their sports even existed.

I only care about the sports that make KSU money.   I dislike all the others, because they do not make KSU money (they do the opposite).

Also, I do not want to date Brad Hill.

So you base your level of like based on revenues and expenses?  Weird.  So you like the job LHC Bill Snyder is doing much more so than that of Frank Martin?  The raw numbers and the percentages indicate that football does a lot more for the school than basketball.  If that's how you feel there isn't much I can say as a defense.  I'm constantly baffled why so many smart people are perfectly content with having such a ridiculously moronic viewpoint about this.  No contracted employee in this country gets paid based on the system you propose and you know it, but you don't care because women's basketball is boring.
