It makes me sad to see otherwise good people so obsessed with wanting to cheat to win, and ignore the rules. If you think the rules should change, that's one thing. If you think we should be bigger than the rules and cheat go be a kU or Kentucky fan. You fit better there. K-State doesn't need you. Win and win clean.

Quote
In the scheme of everything, it's one loss- not years of NCAA tiptoeing. I think Currie made the right call and fully back his decision. As Frank said it is better to err on the side of caution. And as you said, we had a 50/50 shot with JamSam and that decreased without his leadership on the court. We should be very proud of the first half and the season as a whole.

Quote
I just wish he hadn't said the line about "I don't think he did anything wrong." It's imporant to be unified

Quote
Jamar Samuels got a wire transfer of $200 from his former AAU coach on Monday. Someone saw it happen, so he was ineligible for the game yesterday. A lot of people seem to think K-State should have looked the other way. But instead, they did the right thing, and were fighting to get him eligible again, which did not happen in time for the game.

Quote
I'm not so sure why Frank felt he had to distance himself from the decision so much. Currie's job, just in the nature of being the AD is to be the bad guy, Frank didn't need to press that.

I think he clearly wanted Jamar to play. And he's never one to hide his feelings. But that's why there's an AD and a compliance officer. They're the ones who make those calls. That's the way it SHOULD be at every school.

Quote
Wow! $200 doesn't seem worth the risk. I agree though. Winning doesn't count unless it's clean.

Quote
That's part of the problem. A lot of people saying, "it was just $200!" That doesn't make it legal though. Where's the line? $250? $500? $1000? The emotion of having it be right before a tourney game is making people even less rational than usual, too.

Quote
I am surprised someone would sacrifice their career and reputation for just $200. I think a school should enforce the rules for anything. It's a slippery slope, and a lot of people's integrity on the line.

Quote
He knows. They sit though so many lectures on what they can and can't do. And they know that if in doubt to ask the compliance officer. Somewhere that broke down. And while it may turn out to not be a violation, being that close to one made him ineligible until the NCAA rules on it. And that's the mistake.

I also don't buy too much into the he needed cash theory. Players can eat. He chose to put himself in that position by mishandling what he was given. They also get $30 a day per diem while at the tournament. He didn't need an extra $200.

Quote
I'm not arguing that he wasn't going to eat and yes he should have asked somebody, but it just doesn't feel dirty to me. Maybe I'm too far removed or naive. Bottom line- we didn't win, but at least it was clean.

Quote
Amen, brother! The athletes know, and it's a shame to go down that road.

The argument that Malone is a family friend is BS. I'm not saying his heart isn't in the right place, but the rules are the rules for a reason. You start stretching the definition of a pre-existing relationship, and suddenly anything goes. Don't get mad at Currie. Get mad at the NCAA. Or get mad at Jamar. What, he needs food? Like K-State doesn't feed him 24/7 during the postseason? Give me a break. This happened Monday. I can think of several things he probably wanted money for, none of which are food.

His AAU coach is a friend in my opinion since he's no longer his coach and that's legal! It was crap. He should've played. Darrel arthur shouldn't have been eligible for ball at all and he won a national title with ku...

Quote
it may come out that way, but it's not your opinion, or Franks, that makes him eligible.

It'd be interesting to see how the tucks would react if Spradling was the one who received $200.

One thing I've noticed in all this is a few people I've suspected of being hardcore tucks have been pro-Frank pro-Jamar anti-KSU administration on this.  Really proud of them and ashamed of myself for doubting their EMAW.

I have to think that believing Jamar used the $200 for food or some other selfish indiscretion =  :opcat:

Doesn't it stand to reason that one of Jamar's reportedly 30 family members in Pittsburgh for the games may have needed a hotel room, etc.?

Just putting it out there, no real evidence, but it can be pretty revealing to see just how much faith individuals put in explanations for a situation that we just don't have the facts to truly determine.

Too "heady" in their minds to take that money. Plus, he's from JoCo... His parents have like a bajillion dollars they give him every day.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

All this anger is directed at the wrong people. We need not be pissed ad the AD, Frank, Jamar, or whoever else in the KSU CoC.

The bastard who reported this is to blame. The KSU administration was in a difficult predicament when the information was reported to them. I don't fault our administration and it's tough to get too pissed at JamSam for a measly $200. However, I do have a raging hardon for the jackass at Dillons who thought he needed to report this information. That dumbass deserves to have his legs broken.
