What's the consensus here on collagen peptides? Whenever I think of taking it based on what I see generally, I then read other stuff that says there isn't any scientifically proven benefits of it yet? Anyone have any real life experiences with this stuff. Trying to protect my joints here.
the collagen thing confuses me. your body consumes the peptides and breaks them down into amino acids, which are then used to build proteins. your body doesn't know the difference between the types of protein in a way that it will use different proteins for different purposes.
it's kind of like saying "you should eat more beef heart to make your heart stronger." doesn't make any sense. just eat protein.
https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/gelatin-benefitsSome citation to the benefits there, but I'm not very sciencey, so I won't try to convince anyone that it's true or false. My n=1 experience: I had joint pain in my thumb and index finger, but I no longer feel it in my thumb and it's more mild in my index. Maybe that would have hairnet regardless?
I also take creatine, but don't really notice any of the cognitive benefits either. Recently started lifting again so may as well continue with it, it's cheap like gelatin so can't hurt to take it.
