Wasn't no meat on Fridays just a way to force people to buy from fishermen back in the old days? Weren't all of the disciples fishermen? hmmmmmmm

 :sdeek:

It's a nice theory, but it was the catholic church hundreds of years later that started lent. Jesus and the disciples played no part.

Cant the same be said about the whole documented religion?

To an extent, but there is some documented religion that was actually written by people who lived during the time period. How much of that original documentation still remains after the church translated it and kings were allowed to edit it is certainly up for debate, though.

The important part is that fishermen, not kings, wrote it down.

I'm giving up eating shitty "seafood" and/or krab products from fastfood joints.  It's gonna be rough.

lol

One rainy morning at the proverbial coffee shop with ten cake feeders in the parking lot, I once saw a really fat cowboy get in a fight with an either fatter rancher in overalls b/c the cowboy guy was a super serious catholic who went to mass in Latin as a kid and stuff and the overalls guy announced that he was giving up "meaningless traditions and watermelon" for Lent.

Does the bible cover face-hating and fighting as a way of Spreading The Good Word?  Also, are overalls a required uniform of the Catholic Church?  Maybe the overalls signify some form of Enforcer in the hierarchy of the church and this guy was simply tending the flock?

Either way, I bet the cake looked scrumptious.

Once had a catholic girlfriend that wanted to give up "under the clothes stuff" for Lent.

No. I definitely could get behind seafood Fridays, though.

I'm not giving up anything.  In fact, I'm going to start indulging in even more stuff that I don't usually partake.
