He's stable and healthy and he's pretty damn smart (he's in 4th but does math at a 7th grade level and reads on a 10th grade level).

The lone bright spot on the ex's schooling is that he is pretty in touch with his emotions due to her practicing on him. The bad thing is she has been trying to manipulate his perception of the situation for the last two weeks. He impresses me a lot because he is book smart but he is also great at empathizing with people (something I'm pretty bad at).

We have a pretty good relationship when she isn't around. We play video games together. We see all the movies that are appropriate for his age that we want to watch. I coach his basketball team. If it weren't for the wreck last July, we'd golf together every 3-4 weeks.

He's going to be pissed at me because he is going to be learning how to mow the yard in the near future so I don't have to do it during the summer.

My son comes first. We've had serious talks about what's going on and how he has to help out and be more cooperative when told to do things because it is just me and him.

I was supposed to go to NYC for a work trip this week, but had to cancel because I can't leave him with her. It's slightly aggravating because if she would have mumped up a couple weeks ago, I could have afforded to bring him with me. My youngest brother lives in Queens and his wife could have watched him while I was doing work stuff.

Step 1: Take your kid to sea world (or whatever to take his mind off things/spend quality time)
Step 2: Reinforce how much of a badass he is on a consistent basis
Step 3: Buy a cat or another pet
Step 4: Continue to make sure kid is happy (

)
Step 5: Repeat step 4 (^)
Step 6: If kid seems happy & hopeful...maybe* start dating again (*)
Step 7: Don't find a crazy stupid chick again (easier said than done)
Step 8: Profit the social benefits (There is no timetable to these 8 steps)

My parents got divorced when I was 10 and looking back it was probably one of the greatest things to ever happen to me.

Step 2: Already done on a regular basis
Step 3: I'm severely allergic to cats. I have 3 dogs (one of which was an xmas present for him) and we have 2 parakeets. We have plenty of pets.
Step 4: Done
Step 5: No
Step 6: Working on that
Step 7: They're all crazy. It's just a matter of how crazy they are.
Step 8: Ok.

My parents officially divorced when I was 10. Their marriage was over for awhile before that though.
