Unless I missed something, prorating the rent per day seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do for a late tenant.  I can't think of a more renter friendly policy.

Gf- Yes, that way it doesn't lean when you put it together. Have you never made a layered cake?

Gf- Well you know how they pull girls aside in the 5th grade and explain puberty? Yeah, they also go over how to make layered cake.
