Like Clams, I had a single strap laptop bag for a long time (series if them, actually). However, I recently switched over to a backpack and won't look back. Partly, it was because of a temporary back issue, but mostly for ease in travel. Now, its just way more comfortable. I am in an industry that is cool with this...I don't really have to be "fancy," so it is perfect for me. go cats
backpacks are just too damn functional. When you're lugging around a 17" laptop for cad a backpack is as good as it gets.but damn, this guy at the office always gets in some pretty good burns about it.

Oh, great. While I packed up my laptop into my backpack, the cool coworker guy was really razzin' me. Said, "Careful, hope your crayons don't fall out! LMAO!" as he walked away with a slight lean.

If you are going to grad school full time you had better go backpack. It is school and you will be taking books to campus for multiple classes. Nothing else has the room you need.
