Attachés, Briefcases, Messenger Bags
« on: January 22, 2012, 09:46:39 PM »
Mom informed me today that she is set on getting me one of these as a graduation present in preparation for my grad school exploits.  She wants me to pick it out.  The trouble is, I don't have any experience in this department and don't know what is cool and tasteful.  I imagine that I'll still use a backpack for my day to day classes, but maybe use it for when I want to look a little more elite for interviews and things of that nature.  For those ITK, I'd love some opinions.

Let's get this conversation started, goEMAW.com!

I have no idea.  Laptop?  Documents?  Maybe like, a resume or something?

Why are you going to grad school?
Why are you derailing the thread?

People don't use those leather-bound folders anymore for taking resumes/documents to interviews?  Laptop seems unnecessary for what you're talking about.  I guess you could big-time your classmates, but you've said you'll use a regular backpack for school.

Hmm, maybe get a nice suit with a good interior pocket for the gum?

I've been carrying a Coach laptop bag for about 7 years, similar to the Transatlantic they currently sell.  I like it.  Tumi also makes some good ones.

Is black the way to go?  I'm intrigued a little by tan leather.

They both look pretty good. Black is more popular, so you will stand out more with a tan leather bag. Brown is also much harder to find than black, so your choices will be more limited.

Like Clams, I had a single strap laptop bag for a long time (series if them, actually).  However, I recently switched over to a backpack and won't look back.

Partly, it was because of a temporary back issue, but mostly for ease in travel.  Now, its just way more comfortable.  I am in an industry that is cool with this...I don't really have to be "fancy," so it is perfect for me.  go cats

I really want a high quality travel bag, not really the same thing but many will serve both functions.

Since you have back problems, I will give you a pass, but backpacks are for grade schoolers.  True story, A few people that I travel with for work have backpacks and every time I see them at the airport I ask them if they remembered their lunch money.
