People who pull all nighters are just awful at time management.

true except the exact opposite.

I should have qualified that statement.  Generally people who pull all nighters are terrible at time management.

If you prepare a reasonable amount in advance, there is no reason to have to stay up all night.

time spent preparing in advance is a waste when you can just get it all done the night before.

When I was in school, most of the people talking about how they "pulled an all nighter" the night before the test were the same people taking that same class the next semester.

Fact: I know very few good students who pull frequent all-nighters.

I think there are plenty of times that there's a perfect storm. 2 papers, a project, and a test over the span of 2 days. As a self-proclaimed good student, I would end up pulling all nighters once or twice a year because of something like this.

I'm the same way.  BUT most of the time, my necessity to pull an all nighter stemmed directly from my poor time management (In your case, it would have been akin to putting off the papers and projects and whatnot).

About half the time, yes. The other half was mostly due to my work schedule being terrible that week as well.

I've had some late nights and early mornings over the last couple weeks, but that's only because I didn't start the projects and paper I knew about in early October until the end of Thanksgiving. I still managed to avoid any actual all-nighters.  My work schedule is pretty flexible though.

Love all nighters. A couple times though I thought "maybe I'll just take an hour nap, wake up and study more" but then I'd wake up after an hour and think "screw this, sleep feels good". Don't take an hour nap.

Also, when I saw the title of this thread, there was no doubt in my mind that EMAWmeister started it. What a crazy cat.

 :emawkid:

Believe it or not, last night was my first one ever.  Had a 7:30 ABO final and nothing else until friday, so I popped a vyvanse at 2:15 and hit the books!  :excited:

How did you do?

Won't know until friday.  Have an 80.12 in the class, so will take anything above an 80.

The TA is also EMAW is eff.  She names all the test forms after player and stuff.

Today was 'Cotton' and 'Bowl'.

I got Cotton!  :ksu:

HOLY eff, ME TOO!!

I told myself I'd study til 3 and go to bed.  Three sleepless hours of lying awake later, I think I'm just gonna push through until 8:30.

Goddammit, this is frustrating.

I routinely pulled all nighters during undergrad and law school.  I got great grades.  Definitely the way to go IMO.  It also helps to be really smart and not prone to panic under pressure.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

the smart and no panic things are the key. some people just suck ass at studying. you know what else always weirded me out? study groups. what the eff is the point of getting together with other people to study? just more distraction.

well, when you don't go to class cause you were up all night paking...study groups and other peoples' lecture notes were the only that got me through grad school.

All nighters are good for things that have a due date, not tests IMO.

Agreed with the study groups.  I was always smarter than whatever group anyone could put together.  It always became an impromptu tutoring session with me dropping knowledge and not studying.

I was a terrible studier.  Seriously probably never put together more than 2 or 3 hours of studying for a single test through undergrad and grad school.  Thankfully I'm an awesome test taker.

All nighters are great for paper writing.  They are also good as refreshers.  Most people who do all nighters to actually learn the material usually do poorly imo.

I'm always nervous no matter how much I really know the material, so I end up pulling quasi all-nighters often.

My grades usually look like mountain ranges.  It also helps that I'm old and pretty boring compared to your avg. student.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

pull all nighters all the time... but not to study or get work done.  have to do it once a week or so to keep my sleep schedule in a reasonable place.

All nighters are dumb. You are always less productive and less likely to retain information when you are running on fumes than you would be with at least a little bit of sleep.

If you're tired then you should just got to sleep and get about 4 hours then wake up at an insanely early time and hit the books. First hand knowledge that was the philosophy of our national championship debate team and well... ahem... they won a national championship.

An ABO exam would be no different. Go to sleep next time.

I've had some people that wanted to study with me before. They wanted us to "quiz each other." I said yeah or we could just quiz ourselves silently in our brains like grown ups.
