KU is the 4th best job in the current Big 12 behind OU, UT, and OSU.  It's a better job than Iowa State and K-State, and right on par with Baylor, Texas Tech, and TCU.  KU has the 3rd largest endownment in the Big 12, new facilities, and several solid recruiting classes to work with.  Plus, the expectations aren't out of control.  As long as a coach can go 7-5 and compete at a respectable level, we'll support him.  It's a good job.

Seriously, why would a football coach candidate give a crap about the size of a school's endowment? If that was the case, Vandy, Duke and Northwestern would be the most sought-after BCS jobs.

I was thinking ASU was probably our biggest competition for Leach. This doesn't paint a rosy picture of their athletic department and I'm not sure that they can outbid us. Same goes for UCLA.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

pretty sure ive seen a few rankings that have said "while KU has new facilities, they're still at the bottom of the big 12. their always one step behind everyone else."

Lots of gold in this thread...

Is Brock Huard paying attention?
      #2135543 - Wed Nov 30 2011 12:10 PM

Article is Insider, but Huard did not include KU as one of the five best jobs open. Reasoning:

    Quote:
The stadium and facilities at KU need upgrades, and the fact that Turner Gill went from one of the hottest coaching prospects in the nation to unemployed after just two seasons in Lawrence likely will serve as a cautionary tale for coaches interested in taking the job.

Now look: there are plenty of reasons to leave KU off this list. But these two are terrible.

Our football team spends probably 30 hours per year, total, in the one football facility that sucks. Everything else is first class. And besides, if you're winning, the stadium doesn't suck anyway.

Also: Turner Gill was (a) by no means one of the hottest names available in 2009 and (b) 1-16 in Big 12 play! Getting fired because you go 1-16 is not a warning sign to any reasonable candidate. If you are quite clearly the worst at your job in the conference, and perhaps in all of the BCS, yes, you get fired. There is nothing surprising about that.
