Honestly, I'm not surprised the food isn't very good.  So Long's food is overrated, the quality of meat they use on their burgers is garbage.  I think the ambiance is the main reason people like it.

Try some of them with a portabella instead of hamburger. Definitely underrated.

seems weird.  Is it really enjoyable to eat a big mushroom cap instead of a meat patty?

On the right burger, yes. Crank It Up And Head South with a portabella is the best thing at So Long.  :lick:

The crank it up and head south is what I always get, except with meat.  My only issue with So Long is the quality of meat, it is subpar.

I've gotten it with a portabella for two years straight. Last night I got it with meat just for old time's sake, and regretted it.

If I went to So Long's with my friends or a girl or whatever, and I substituted a mushroom for the burger, I'd feel pretty embarrassed.

Thing is, I love mushrooms and don't care much for burgers.  Does the Mrs. give you a hard time about it, Stevesie?  I think I'd feel a bit emasculated.

haven't done it at so long, but portobello burgers are actually pretty tasty.  don't really see why a chick would feel weird about it, either - more of the opposite.

p.s. i enjoy meat burgers too

I ate there again on Tuesday.  I really liked the tomatillo chips and salsa - very spicy.  Had the pork wings and a fish taco for my meal.  I was somewhat underwhelmed by the pork wings, although the tinga sauce was delicious.  The fish taco was pretty good, although nothing that wowed me.  My brother's lady friend ordered the nachos, which were awesome.  Tons of food for the $7.5 price, smothered with lots of pork chili and other nacho-y things.  'Lil bro got the steak and cheese burrito on my reccomendo and really liked it.

Biggest complaint is the ultra-narrow selection.  Its just 5 (I think) types of tacos, 3 burritos, and appetizers.  Also only 4 beers on tap from what I could see: Blvd Wheat, Dos Equis, Bud Light and I think Mich. Ultra.  Drink prices are really high (at least for Aggieville / Manhattan) too.  $6 for a pint glass margarita, and I think it was $4 for Blvd and Dos Equis. $2.50 Tecate is the only "deal."

That said, the atmosphere is great, and I know that some of the food is really good.  Watched the second half of the bball game there, and they had it on all the TV's and the speakers and the sight lines seemed pretty good from anywhere in the place.

Still will be going back, although not as impressed as the first time.

Went last weekend. Pretty good. Food isn't mind blowing, but yummy. Loved the decor and ambiance. Place is going to be rocking when it's warmer so people can use the back patio.

It was alright.  Agree that it'll be a lot of fun in the summer.  For some reason, I thought I'd seen an Omari tweet on our way up to MHK talking up the buffalo chicken tacos, but I'm not seeing it now.  As a loyal EMAPE, when what I thought was Omari gives advice on what to eat, I follow it, 'clams be damned.  Had that and the carnitas.  Working close to a spot in Wichita with an abundance of street taco trucks, it was nothing special, but a nice addition.

Got some tacos (slayer, buff chicken, fish) all pretty tasty. Had a bite of the Black and Blue was v. good also. Tried the salsa sampler, liked the medium one best, the pineapple one was ok, and the spiciest one tasted like kiwi. Next time I will get the burritos.
