MANHATTAN, Kan. - Three Kansas State signees - Jared King, Johnny Fasola and Shane Conlon - were recently honored for their play as high school seniors this past season.

King, an outfielder, was named the 2010 Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association (OHSBCA) Division I Player of the Year after leading Dublin Jerome to a 23-7 record and a sectional championship. The brother of current Wildcat Jason King, Jared King tallied a school-record .574 batting average last season and also set school marks in single-season hits (58), doubles (15) and runs scored (41).

King, who earned first team all-league and district honors, was also named the Division I Central District Player of the Year.

Fasola, a 36th-round draftee by the Los Angeles Dodgers, earned 2010 Division II Player of the Year honors from the OHSBCA. Fasola also recently picked up Louisville Slugger High School All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball after leading Walsh Jesuit High School to the state finals.

Fasola, an infielder and a pitcher, was outstanding as a senior, hitting .571 (52-for-91) with 10 doubles, 55 runs scored and a school-record tying 10 home runs. He collected 96 total bases, good for a 1.055 slugging percentage, while also recording a .661 on-base percentage.

On the mound, Fasola went 3-0 with a 1.45 ERA with 57 strikeouts in 33.2 innings and limited opponents to a .169 batting average.

One of the top players in the state of Illinois, Conlon was named the 2010 Chicago Tribune Player of the Year and a Louisville Slugger High School All-American. The first baseman and pitcher led Naperville Central to a 4A state championship as he registered a .430 batting average and pounded out 20 extra-base hits.

Like Fasola, Conlon was also dominant on the mound as he went 12-0 with a 1.45 ERA. The left-hander struck out 122 batters as opposed to just 12 walks in 82.0 innings of work.

Hill says this is the best class KSU has ever signed.  If the draft doesn't totally rape us, we should be better next year than this year.

K-State, Hill agree to new deal

By Blair Kerkhoff - Posted on 13 August 2010

Kansas State baseball coach Brad Hill has agreed to a new five-year contract, the school announced Friday.

The contract replaces a four-year deal Hill signed in 2009 and takes him through 2015 with an average annual compensation of $235.000.

Hill could also earn up to an additional $172,500 in annual performance incentives for various achievements, including appearances in the Big 12 Baseball Championship and the NCAA Tournament, as well as for winning regular-season and postseason championships.

K-State has enjoyed its greatest success under Hill. The Wildcats appeared in their first NCAA Tournament in 2009 and repeated the trip in 2010.
The team’s third-place finish in the Big 12 last year was a high-water mark for the program.

Seems like a lot of money for a College Baseball coach.  Wonder what Augie Gorito (SP?) makes?

(LSU head baseball coach Paul) Mainieri, whose contract was set to expire in June 2011, got an extension to June 2014 and will see his total compensation go from $525,000 to $625,000. He also receives compensation for radio and television appearances, as well as for his youth camps. With incentives for winning the SEC championship, advancing to the regionals and the College World Series, Mainieri can earn close to $1 million per year.
