Mangino didn't really do much until Warriner came along as his offensive coordinator.  Once Bill Young left, Mangino's defenses started getting torched on a regular basis.  There's a reason why the guy isn't coaching anywhere right now.

well mike leach isn't coaching anywhere right now but i'm pretty sure he'd be pretty amazing at either ku or kstate, so i'm not sure the fact that mangino isn't currently coaching either really matters. also it was ku rough ridin' u, so you couldn't exactly expect mangino to set fire year one or not have a down year along the line.

Agreed.  It is extremely hard to recruit to Lawrence.  Mangino was pretty impressive.

Agreed.  It is extremely hard to recruit to Lawrence.  Mangino was pretty impressive.

Gill had a top 35 recruiting class after going 3-9 last year, and the men's basketball program almost always has a top 25 recruiting class.

Just saw Stoops in action after attending the Oregon State/Arizona game (Go Beavs!!!).  Arizona's special teams might be the worst I've ever seen.  They missed field goals, extra points, had a punt blocked, fumbled a kick return, etc.   It was pretty bad.

well if it isn't our resident lew perkins apologist. look man, mangino was o coordinator and head of recruiting at ksu and then bob rough ridin' stoops hired him away and he ended up with the same positions at ou. then he went to k rough ridin' u of all god damn places and managed to be national coach of the year and win a mother rough ridin' orange bowl. but if you want to paint him as some horrible coach all so you can keep your perkins woody then fine. i think any casual unbiased observer can easily admit that the guy has been really, really good at what he's done over his entire coaching career. lew's gone man and trashing mangino isn't going to bring him back.

Seriously though Daris, ku did not beat one god damn good team the year they won the orange bowl.  He's a pretty good coach though, I mean, he knows what he's doing and that counts for something.
