Trying to get a feel for an opposing fanbase
« on: October 04, 2011, 02:12:29 PM »
As we have not shared leagues for decades upon decades I feel it would be interesting to see what the answers to these questions are from a KSU perspective.

1- What are your 3 best teams since 1980?  Which is the best?
2- Who are your top 5 MUTUAL rivals historically?  Which ones do both fanbases get amped for is what I am asking.
3- Best QB and runner up.
4- Best RB and runner up.
5- Biggest victory in your history in terms of what it meant for the program.
6- One thing you wish others knew about your program that often is completely missed.

Looking forward to the replies.

1- What are your 3 best teams since 1980?  Which is the best? 1997, 1998, 2003 .... 1998
2- Who are your top 5 MUTUAL rivals historically?  Which ones do both fanbases get amped for is what I am asking.  We don't have rivals, but everyone wants to be our rival.
3- Best QB and runner up.  Toss-up between Bishop and Roberson.  Some may disagree.
4- Best RB and runner up.  Sproles and probably Thomas as runner-up
5- Biggest victory in your history in terms of what it meant for the program.  First victory under Scheme Doctor
6- One thing you wish others knew about your program that often is completely missed. EcoKat is a true hero.

Looking forward to the replies.

we get it, baylor fan.  you think that your 2011 baylor bears are the same as our 1998 ksu wildcats, and this is all bait to get to that talking point.

jesus christ, man.  (crap, sorry.)

You first.

1- 1985, 1980, and 1991 were probably the best.  1985 was a 9-3 team with single score losses to Texas, Georgia, and Arkansas all on the road and dominated LSU in their bowl.
2- A&M, TCU, Tech, SMU, rest of the SWC.  Texas does not count as they are everyone's game.
3- It's between RG3 and 1960s QB Don Trull.  RG3 will have spot #1 when he moves on.
4- Walter Abercrombie is clearly #1.  Elite talent.  Old timer pick is Ronnie Bull.
5- 1974 Miracle on the Brazos was a completely out of left field upset of UT and ushered in Grant Teaff's success at Baylor.  There had been talk of how private schools couldn't compete anymore and this was the first of many big wins en route to an SWC title and a clear #3 standing in-league until the SWC died.  Teaff's most important win.
6- I wish people knew 2 things about Baylor, the SWC, and the Big 12.

a- That Baylor was the #3 program behind only UT and A&M in the last 15-16 years of the SWC and that we were better than Tech.
b- That Baylor never pushed anyone out of a Big 12 bid (it was 10 teams til BU and Tech crashed the party politically) and that despite Politics playing a big role, Ann Richards did nothing and that Bob Bullock (and a few others) worked for BOTH Tech and Baylor.

1- What are your 3 best teams since 1980?  Which is the best?  1998, 2002, 2003. People will say 98. I'm fond of 2002.
2- Who are your top 5 MUTUAL rivals historically?  Which ones do both fanbases get amped for is what I am asking.  KU, NU, UT are the main ones. Lots of good recent competitions
3- Best QB and runner up. Ell Roberson, Michael Bishop
4- Best RB and runner up. Darren Sproles, Daniel Thomas
5- Biggest victory in your history in terms of what it meant for the program. 1998 NU, probably.
6- One thing you wish others knew about your program that often is completely missed. People assume Manhattan is a small crap hole. It's actually a decent college town with a nice campus and nice scenery.

Looking forward to the replies.

So "Farmageddon" is a forced "rivalry" game?

That name just pokes fun at the two teams. It isn't a rivalry game because k-state should (and has) beat ISU consistently.

Nailed it...other than the jokes on 2 and 6.  More serious answers?

2 - We don't have 5 MUTUAL "rivals"...can't think of any college teams that would unless you're just talking about other conference teams.  KU is the obvious one.  And after we started competing with NU and finally beat them in '97, those games took on a rivalry feel.

6 - That we have the resources to compete at a very high level with a coach not named Snyder.  (mainly I wish the 'tucks knew this)  I don't really give a eff what others know or don't know about our program.

It's weird how the the only tards that believe Roberson > Bishop all were in school in the early 2000s.

I think that Arthur Brown might just be a better college football player.
