in your experience, does the mesh point relay the exact quality of the signal it receives, or does it truly "boost" it?

ex. i've done a speed test with my laptop from the spot on the third floor where i think the mesh point would go, and the signal seems fairly pud. would the mesh point boost that strength or just relay what it receives?

Just a friendly reminder to the board.  You can mesh network all day long and twice on Sunday to try and avoid the government, but if they control the actual access to the Internet itself. . . welp, hate it for ya.

I don't know that a mesh network has anything to do with avoiding the gov

I'm not sure there. We got it because our basement TV wasn't getting a great signal so it would buffer occasionally. it made that never happen anymore. we have super fast internet though. like 800mb down. Cox "Gigablast". Giga seems like I would be getting 1gb down Cox you assholes but whatever.

Maybe "blast" is tech-speak for "but not really"?

As long as you space the nodes reasonably close together you’ll be money.  If you have three floors, then you’ll likely just need  three nodes.

And yes they boost the signal, that’s the entire point of the system.

thank you all. i have 1gb Google but it seems to struggle going vertically through whatever our old ass house was constructed out of. i'm feeling confident the mesh would help.

My cox got 2-3x faster when updating my approx 5 year old router.  That's not to advocate for my particular set up, just updating to current hardware every few years.

If you use the Google internet box as a router also know it's straight trash and you can definitely up range and speed by replacing it. The mesh prob works fine too tho

have heard this as well. probably going to spend a little extra and go for the mesh just to increase chances of success.

I am probably due to do this with my router/modem soon as I have had both for 4 years (I paid for my own modem, eff paying that equipment fee, I've basically already paid for the damn thing nearly 2x over at this point). I just don't want to go through the hassle of switching everything over and reconnecting it all.

Also, my personal modem (eff renting that bitch) is at least five years old. Will update it if I see degradation.

Quite jelly. However, I live in the country. Our pipeline is smaller. I'm not a suburban king like Steve Dave. Plus, I only pay for 100G.

Is that Google Fiber?

We have had AT&T gig for years but I am technology hindered and did not realize we needed to get a router other than their’s to really take advantage of it.  Our connection would always drop out and then reconnect or or be buffering, even in the same room as the router.

Well, fast forward to a couple weeks ago and I installed Eero Pro 6.  My life is better.  Have not dropped connection once, no buffering, I am finally getting what I was paying for.  Only problem was connecting some lower bandwidth devices but the app is so easy, even I could do it.  As easy as disabling the higher bandwidth, and it automatically restores itself after it gives time for connection establishment:

10/10 would buy again.
