The football gods must have been smiling on EMAW yesterday:

Quote
"When the d-end decided he was going to be late off the ball, he kind of ruined the whole play," Harris said. "He wasn't paying attention and as soon as I said hike he got caught up in his assignment and it actually helped him. My only option was run it or throw it in the flat and I couldn't do that because they were playing man.

"They covered it pretty well. The d-end, him being late on the ball he actually played the shovel pass without knowing it. Next time we just have to run it up in there, never put ourselves in that situation again."

First, this is a similar look to the play we won the UCF game last year, but Miami didn't have a bubble outside. They ran a crossing route combo from their trips recievers for a run, pass, shovel (to Miller) option for Harris.

Jacory doesn't know what he's talking about on the DE though. Davis was not late off the ball, but he played his key and then adjusted. His job there is to read the offensive tackle, who went down, so he's supposed to go down first. Once he saw the ball wasn't going inside, he rerouted to the edge. He knows he's got Walker filling off of his outside and Walker was there to make a play. We had Zimmerman coming off the edge to protect the TE side, Brown was over the top from the strong side to cover the shovel, and our DBs locked onto the trips well and didn't get picked off. The only slight mistake was Walker not trusting his instincts (or Brown playing behind him) and pausing as Harris rolled out before adjusting and making the play. He would've made the play at the 3 or 4 had he not paused.

This, I could have killed him for waiting for so long to go after Harris.
