i don't like any of these dogs.  i think you need to give up on petfinder and find somewhere with a better selection.

I just had to dry heave in a hotel lobby bathroom and maybe am not ready for this responsibility.

I suppose most days when I'm home I could lie in the fake grass winters-style and tie the dog on a really long leash to me.

Yeah, this isn't a process that's made better with the internet. You should just go down to the humane society/arl/aspca, it's going to become apparent which dog you'll want when you meet him/her.

I started that way. Few dogs, even less background info and very chaotic. I like reading the info and talking to a person that knows if it'd work out. Isn't petfinder just an aggregator of every humane society place anyway?

When I get home and a few hours sleep, I'll just apply for all of them and see who comes back first with a declaration it'd be good, especially if they do a trial.

Got an email today that old man nash can be had, but consensus seems to be nah.

Thinking about getting a dog in the spring. Leaning towards a mini Australian Shepherd. Would obviously prefer a full sized one, but live in an apartment.

So starting to think about a new pup.

Arguing with the Mrs. about breed. I'm leaning towards chocolate lab, she is leaning heavily towards a Wire Haired Pointing Griffon. I really want a dog that can handle trail running, hiking, and running with me while I mountain bike.

Anyone have any opinions on these two breeds or experience?

Chocolates have a lot of health issues.  If you want a hiking buddy go yellow.

My chocolate lab loves hiking and crap. I haven't biked with her, but one of her favorite things is running beside/behind a 4 wheeler while I'm tearing crap up in pastures, wooded trails and down shallow creeks and crap on my dad's property.

Different coat colors of labs have different health characteristics?

i have no clue but maybe if the particular color has been inbred more than others, it would lead to more health issues

Yes, Inbreeding. Chocolates are hard to obtain so they inbreed too much which leads to health issues.

Why no gray labs? That'd be tight. My wife's lab is for intents and purposes, white. Not very blonde.

Reggie was gone, Chunk turned out to be in Texas, Theo and all PR dogs require a yard.  Apps are in for Tosh and the place that has Dora and Clyde.
