kent state was #10 in overall defense and #42 in scoring defense last year  (btw, NI was #26 in total defense, #14 in scoring defense last year).  granted, it was last year, but just sayin'.

Not trying to take anything away from them but take those numbers with a grain of salt considering their schedule. Stats are incredibly misleading.

KU's offense is better than KSU's.  ku's RB's are better than ours.  Not even close actually.  And Webb can throw a forward pass so he's automatically better than Klein.  NI has a fantastic offense; KU's defense is prolly equal to KSU's.

I'd hold judgement till after Miami and after KU plays Ga Tech.

However, as it stands now you appear to be correct.

don't get me wrong, the sunflower showdown is going to be a cripple fight.  I'm just saying KU appears to be slightly less Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) than us.

hopefully bill can watch a TON of game tape on Kent State and won't hold his team back again so they'll look super awesome next weekend and I can change my mind.

You won't see anything until after Miami.  Kent State is horrible.  Like...really horrible.

Yeah, I wouldn't take anything from that game unless we actually lose. If we lose, we might not be beating anybody else.

Likewise, if we 10-7 Kent State then we know we won't be beating anyone else

I'm not really looking for scores.   I'm looking to see if our OL can actually get a push and if we're still able to rush the passer effectively.

I also want to start seeing Brown carry the ball more.  Hubert is our third best back.  I have no idea why Snyder decided to play mind voodoo with Brown and Pease, but it most definitely contributed to the EKU debacle.

I'm not even taking anything from the EKU game.  The personnel decisions were just baffling to me, personally.  Especially at running back.  The only definitive thing I saw was an OL that didn't come ready to play.

Well, I also so a decent defense that actually had a few pass rushers and good linebackers.  So, all in all, I wasn't too angry after I finally got to sit down and watch the whole thing from start to finish.

When I re-watched I was less angry with Kleins performance, angrier with Huberts and felt B. Brown was by far the best back.

I'm not really looking for scores either. I just want to see us dominate them on defense, basically shutting them down and score a ton of touchdowns.

10-7 wouldn't be nearly as bad as something like 45-42. I'm still much more skeptical about the defense than I am the offense. The offense will be pretty good.

Yeah, they've scored a total of 19 points in two games. So, even if our offense doesn't improve at all I don't see us losing that game.

Curb your enthusiasm, Kent State's defense picked Alabama off four times last week.

And they got a total of 7 points off of it. Its hard to see Kent State getting more than 5 turnovers, which is what EKU got. Bottom line is there offense is just as bad as EKUs and it's not like their defense can play much better than EKUs did last week.

Do you not understand that they played Alabama?  The number 2 team in the country, arguably the best defense in the college football?  If the offense doesn't improve we will lose.

Yeah and they scored 12 against UL Lafayette, who has the 102nd ranked defense.  I figure our defense is probably somewhere in between those two teams and probably the offense too. So, I would guess we could easily hold them to 10 and the offense will manage to score more than that even with absolutely no improvement.

Oh, and in case you were curious CBS has UL Lafayette ranked 119th.

What does ULL have to do with Kent State picking off the #2 team in the country 4 times, and KSU turning it over 5 times against an average at best FCS team?

was at the ku-niu game (free ticket of course...everyone in my group had a free ticket).

niu basically runs the tex tech offense.  ku played soft and niu threw quick passes and down the line passes all day on them.  saw no real pass rush from ku, they looked undersized and niu's wr's were winning every one-on-one.  i dont see any improvement from what they were last season defensively.

offensively ku has a solid run blocking line (though they were called for holding like 4 times) and some speed at rb.  they run a rather safe ball control offense that should keep the scores more reasonable from last season.  also should cut down on turnovers.  webb looked solid, he was able to buy time and make some nice throws when he was in trouble.  doesnt really have a deep ball and i dont see much from ku's wr's though the TE looks like he can catch the ball pretty well.    dont really remember webb running the ball, don't think the coaches really want him too.  all in all ku's offense will at least be serviceable if not unspectacular.

in summary i would compare this ku team to our team in '09.

I hope you meant '10 because the K-State D in '09 was light years ahead of this years KU D. The offense on the other hand was pretty effing awful.

was at the ku-niu game (free ticket of course...everyone in my group had a free ticket).

niu basically runs the tex tech offense.  ku played soft and niu threw quick passes and down the line passes all day on them.  saw no real pass rush from ku, they looked undersized and niu's wr's were winning every one-on-one.  i dont see any improvement from what they were last season defensively.

offensively ku has a solid run blocking line (though they were called for holding like 4 times) and some speed at rb.  they run a rather safe ball control offense that should keep the scores more reasonable from last season.  also should cut down on turnovers.  webb looked solid, he was able to buy time and make some nice throws when he was in trouble.  doesnt really have a deep ball and i dont see much from ku's wr's though the TE looks like he can catch the ball pretty well.    dont really remember webb running the ball, don't think the coaches really want him too.  all in all ku's offense will at least be serviceable if not unspectacular.

in summary i would compare this ku team to our team in '09.

I hope you meant '10 because the K-State D in '09 was light years ahead of this years KU D. The offense on the other hand was pretty effing awful.

was thinking more in general than an exact comparison.

Overall, I'm just really happy with how this thread turned out.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."
