living anywhere in KS to KCMO would be the biggest upgrade.  i mean, hayseed redneck to city, no brainer.

How in the hell do I convince someone that I'm fit to be a manager if I've never managed anyone directly before, especially in an industry I know nothing about?

Let me know if you guys hear of any senior marketing openings. I think Ms. Wacky is about to snap on her manager and has had enough. Sucks too, because what a cool product.

Bummer. Maybe she should confront. I've done it. Worked wonderfully a couple of times. Managers have to learn to adapt styles. Sometimes they need prompting.

She's done it. She even talked to HR. Her manager pretty much said that there's going to be changes soon and the company might be phasing out her position. They did the same thing to one of my buddies in my wedding. She called me today really upset. It's frustrating, because now i'm finally happy and she's where i'm at last summer.

Well, okay.  As a PM there are a lot of similarities, and dissimilarities too.  But these people don't know me, my work, etc.  I figure it's probably pretty hard to get your first mgmt gig at a new firm in a new industry?  Hope I'm wrong.

Every manager had to start out as not a manager to begin with, so there ya go. Unless it's like your dads company or something and he's just mushing your face.

Hi Wacky,  I hope you are doing well. This is a bit of a shot in the dark but I am a Chicago-based recruiter specializing in the proprietary higher education space and am writing to see if you or someone you know might be interested in exploring a new opportunity. My client is a medium-sized, East Coast-based, growing proprietary school school group with a sterling reputation in the industry and is looking for a Master Admissions Representative. The position is based in Buffalo, NY and relocation expenses will be covered for the right candidate. Starting salary is $60-70k with a certain degree of flexibility based on experience and overall fit. Do you by chance have an interest in learning more? Feel free to let me know either way and thank you for your time and consideration.   Thanks!   Curtis

phone interviews.. whats everyones thoughts on those?. I get for the company that weeds out some people but you would think that the resume alone would do that

I do them all day. What do you need to know? I can tell a lot from a phone interview. Cost efficient too.

my only problem with this is the phone interview followed by the face to face interview with a different person answering almost the same exact questions

Very true. They like to throw you through the ringer. I had 5 interviews for this job. IMO, the more interviews, the legitimacy of the position shines to me. It means it's a good company, who plans carefully, and makes smart decisions. Obviously the face-to-face is the most important. But the phone interview sets the stage. I report to my regional director and she expects I should know your life story thoroughly. The face to face interview is basically kicking the tires. See how you are in front of ppl.
