At work, you're responsible to your company, your boss, and yourself.  You are not responsible to your coworkers or their hurt feelings.  Provided it doesn't have a huge potential to hurt you later (one of these people getting promoted over you, etc), do what is best for you.

Man, we setup our home work stations this week. Pretty geeked out about it. We only need to be in the office now when our Manager flies in from DC. Hitting the range this afternoon, tourney next weekend in the flint hills.

Pro-Tip that recently worked for me: Ask for a Raise BEFORE your annual review.

Last year I waited until my actual yearly review meeting to bring up the fact that I thought my base pay was lower than what I would get at another company. When the review meeting finally happened I presented my argument for a raise but at that point everything had been decided and there was not much room for negotiation, I got a 2.25% raise.

This year when I emailed my self review to my manager I brought up the conversation from last year and said I wanted to revisit increasing my base pay to where I thought it should be and included some reasons of why. Had my review the other day and got a 7% raise. If I had said nothing last year I probably would of got the same 2-3% raise in base pay.

TL:DR - Always ask for a raise and make sure your manager knows what you are expecting (Include research/reasons etc on why you deserve it)

Yeah pro tip: your annual raise and any raise you are going to ask for and also any promotion you are going to get for the next 12 months has already been decided and budgeted for. Anything outside of that is a giant PITA to get if you work for a big international company.

Along those lines, I’ve never been in a position to negotiate my wage, but the Mrs has said that whenever her boss has said “let me know if you have anything we need to consider/add to the budget” it’s code for “let me know now if you’re gonna ask for a raise.”

finance person here- when making these types of decisions no one but finance really cares what's in/out of budget. the other orgs will just blame finance for not budgeting enough for merit/market adjustments/promotions if they go over.  also, budgeting usually just considers a certain percentage by organization, usually 3-5%%, it's not budgeted by individual.  your boss can award that however they want.

He’s restructuring our bonus plan and it’s not for the better. I’m legit pissed. I don’t wanna go job shopping right now with my first born coming in 4 months.

sorry, not to derail this thread, but now i can't stop thinking about that hot and steamy scene between Diane Lane's character and Violin.  some of the most intense cinema i've seen in quite some time.

Just a quick FYI for your information:  Just switched careers after 11 years in the teaching biz.  Sucks having to work in the summer but it's amazing not being in charge of 150 dumbass kids the entire day.  Any pro-tips about working in an office are appreciated.

Use all of your vacation and don't save it for Christmas unless you're actually traveling. Bring decent coffee. Don't accept social media friend requests from coworkers. My number one rule: don't bang a co-worker. Nobody needs that drama.
