Rumblings that he was eating Panda Express.

Thing about Panda Express is that everyone always says how good it is and how well they will serve you.  Then you finally get Panda Express and it looks like it could be really good, smells good, and people are still talking about how much potential the meal has.  Then you finally eat the food and it just isn't very good.  So you take your left overs home and think that a night in the fridge may help the flavors mix and may be one of those meals that gets better after some time.  Then you eat it the next day for lunch and it still isn't very good.  Still looks good.  Still smells fine, but just isn't great.  Then you are pissed that you wasted so much time and emotion looking forward to what you hoped would be a fantastic meal of Chinese only to find yourself still out looking for good Chinese, only all this time has gone by and you have nothing to show from it except the realization that Panda Express just isn't all that.  Sure you drive by it when you are out at the Legends and you still remember how all those people told you it was so good and you still can't help thinking to yourself that maybe you just tried it on a bad day...

A metaphor so good it's almost at allegory status.

I had a Vietnamese friend in high school. His mother tried to feed me seaweed once. I told her to get that nasty weed out of my face.

Any way to work Panda Express getting a Twitter and you spending several months trying to justify its emo/bitchiness compared to the adorableness of all the other Chinese restaurants' twitters into this metaphor?

No taco place anymore? :(

Remember when the food court had a Taco Via . . . and there was ANOTHER Taco Via in another part of the mall? Man, those were Taco Via's glory days.

Also, Burmese food is the GOAT.

yes.  there was a taco via in the food court, and a taco via down by the fun factory at the other end of the mall.  the whole scene was very elite and meant only for elites.

:surprised: Worked at the taco via off 95th and antioch throughout high school. They are tearing down the whole strip mall it was located in and they are re-opening in the old blockbuster building caddy corner.  Still have some contacts and will be recieving a VIP invite to the re-opening. PM for any taco via insidery info

Tried to hit up the Via at 95th and Antioch last weekend - was devastated for a bit until Walgreens cashier lady told me to chillax it will be back soon.

1 Sancho
1 Taco
1 Nacho
1 Large Cherry Cola, and yes I bring my own Taco Via cup.

true story- the panda express on 135th and Metcalf has some of the finest foodstuffs this side of the mississippi.  and yes, before you ask, some of you probably already know but for those that don't- i was the foursquare mayor of the restaurant for several weeks last spring.

Chinese Fusion on 135th and Switzer = Better
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

Did they have all the Christian paraphernalia and Ten Commandments placemats when you worked there? I couldn't work in a place like that.

I found out why several Taco Vias suddenly got so Christiany years ago, although you insiders may have already known. The founders' son and owner of the franchise, Steven Throneberry, got "saved" in 1996. Shortly thereafter, he required all the franchisees to display religious junk. Several balked. This may be why one location split off to became Taco Uno and another became the much-missed Tacos del Sol (that place's selection/prices were :horrorsurprise: ). Somehow the 95th and Antioch location managed to keep the Taco Via name while maintaining a religion-free atmosphere, but they're not listed on the Taco Via website. Heathens!

Steven died in 2010, so I wonder if the current owner is still pushing religion in the restaurants (much as I'm pushing Taco Via in a Wally Judge thread)?

As someone who worked at OPM for 2 years in high school, I say stick to sarku's sushi.  Also, stay the eff away from Original Pizza.  Least sanitary place I've ever seen in my life.

My insidery knowledge of taco via tells me that you are correct. There was a falling out between the main owner and the franchisee owners that led to some Via's splitting off.

The owner of the 95th st taco via is quite hippyish with his pony tail so I would imagine the religous overtunes did not sit well with him. He also used to own that candy store in the mall called mr goodsomething or the other.

This can also be seen in the menu as the 95th and antioch location has stuck with some of the original recipes such as cooking all its ground beef in house(sucks ass) which is why its prices are higher than the taco via at 135th. The sauce() and alot of the other spices have stayed the same but they are pretty much 2 seperate business now.

All in all i always considered the other taco via's(135th st, 75th st) as knockoffs and not the real taco vias.
