Author Topic: Do kids still play sports? (Read 6532 times)

I'm not talking about being on a team, but kids just going out in the yard or park and playing sports? That is pretty much all we did when I was a kid, but I never really see groups of kids outside playing football, baseball, basketball, etc.....

I would go kick a soccer ball around at the old stadium in school. Played the pick up games with all the international students. Serge Afelly played sometimes, weird seeing someone that tall playing soccer. He liked to head the ball to himself, go figure, nobody could get that high to challenge.

Play sand volleyball now, as does every frat and sorority person from KSU, ku, and Emporia that lives in KC now. I guess I am one of them now

On my block I rarely see any of the several white families of kids playing sports. There is one black family at the end of the street and their kids are always outside playing hoops, throwing the football, riding bikes, all that stuff. No :opcat, just an honest anecdotal observation.

Blame the 100 deg weather. My street is usually full of kids, but it has looked like a ghost town this last month.

Was only allowed to play when the sun was down, and after all the chores were done and room was clean and crap. And obviously not at dinner, and not after bed time. So like basically never.

Seems like there must have been 40 hours in a day way back when. Remember playing basketball/football/baseball outside all day long and somehow managing to put in marathon sessions of nba jam in with my friends. Don't know when we found the time to get any sleep in.

When I was a kid I was rarely inside during the summer and most of the other kids were outside as well. We played every game imaginable. Do parents just let them stay inside all the time? My mom constantly made us go outside.

When I've visited my family in the old neighborhood I can already see the difference from just 9-10 years ago. There was always 7-10 kids from ages 10-15 probably playing baseball or football every day in the summer. I don't see any kids playing any more. Weird.

I see kids playing outside every day in the suburbs, not so much at 12th and Main.
