I'd be willing to give Gill four or five years. The risk/reward with Gill is pretty one-sided. If he doesn't win, big deal... KU football hires a better coach in a few years. If he does start winning, KU will have one of the best young coaches in the country (who can recruit at a much higher level than Mangino did).

Yes, there is a top secret plan to hire Harbaugh after ku gets invited to the Pac 10, since ku is truly an elite academic and athletic powerhouse. I didn't think anyone else noticed--maybe people are distracated by the 3 conference wins in 2 years in football, the campus riots, multiple criminal charges against student athletes, etc. But if you keep your eye on the ball, you can see the top secret plan at work. Cheyenne Zulu is the change agent, Lew Perkins was the initiator.
