well let's revisit that.

If you have a previous f'n head coach who signs 20 jcs in back to back seasons then he's going to have a TON of kids leaving the program in back to back classes now won't he? Scholarship limitations of 25 per year. It's not that he didn't want more bodies...he simply couldn't get more bodies even if he wanted them. He had a jc kid that didn't make it..a jc kid that got hurt, etc.

Most KSU fans have been aware of the issue Prince left behind. It was going to take several years to get the numbers up.

It doesn't help in other places, like corner, when your top kid declares early unexpectedly and two others are ineligible. If you can only carry about 70 scholarships for a few years your numbers are going to be thin in a few areas and injuries and ineligibles are going to hurt you.

I think we'll be 7-5...best case 8-4. I know Phil Steele's best case was 9-3 but I really can't see it.

I think we'll be 7-5...best case 8-4. I know Phil Steele's best case was 9-3 but I really can't see it.

IMO, based upon the tougher schedule this year, 7-5 would show improvement. 6-6 would show stagnation. I'm with you in thinking that 7-5 should be the expectation. 6-6 seems more likely to me, though. 5-7 and Snyder should be fired.

not even close to it. We won't be at 85 this year but Snyder usually keeps it a few below 85 to reward walk-ons or needs that pop up (those seem to be a lot of places in recent years).

So, we just had a bunch of open scholarships? Why not use them to pay for walk-ons, at least for a year? Seems pretty silly not to. How many schollies did we use last year?

I'm sure a few were rewarded for a year. but there are limits...I know there is something in the NCAA about those counting towards the 25...not certain how it works. but some of these kids are not big 12 material. it's not like eric diesel from St. Mary's or wherever was going to stone syracuse. capiche?

Who cares if they were Big 12 caliber players? If you think enough of a kid to give him a spot on your team, he must add something. Rather than just have vacant ships, why not pay for Joe Blow's education for a year? It's not like having one more kid in a lecture hall actually costs the school anything...

Isn't that the same thing as giving him a scholarship? I can't imagine the NCAA allowing that.

My best guess, we will have 76 players on scholarship when fall camp starts. This is without knowing if any w/o was awarded a ride. OB has usually operated with 80 - 82 in years past. Like Hatter said, he likes keeping a few in his pocket.

Yeah, I do. Not that they would make an actual contribution on the field but that they would practice harder against the guys who do matter. Why do you think walk-ons are even kept around?

Walkons are a great way to fill up some roster space with hard working white boys that do things the right way.
