Nicname Jr. caught his first fish of the year last weekend. He was super pumped. Dropped his Bubble Tape in the water though so he was pretty bummed about that.

I need to get my hands on some decent ponds.

Anyone catch something yet? Had my first decent day yesterday, caught 5 tiny bass in 2 hours.

Unfortunately one of the ponds i typically fish had new "No Fishing Signs except residents" posted (condos) so i left :-(

I love the tubes, I think it's the best place to fish around mhk. Just would like to catch more bass and don't have a boat.

Try the trout pond next to tuttle puddle, lots a decent sized bass in there. Give rocky ford a shot if you want to do some river fishing.

Also check out the KS fishing atlas (Available online and in magazine form at your local wallys) http://kdwpt.state.ks.us/KDWPT-Info/Locations/Hunting-Fishing-Atlas/Fishing-Atlas

Look for "FISH" program sites, they in the small blue rectangles. These are farm ponds that the state of KS leases from farmers, anyone with a fishing license can fish them. I visited a couple in leavenworth county last year and caught some LUNKERS.

I clicked on section 21 around manhattan and found the following locations within half an hour

39.324410, -96.702329

38.925059, -96.597827

39.421590, -96.357264

Nope, just your typical farm type land.

You are asking because of snakes right? There is a bridge with lots of bball sized rocks underneath it, snake heaven i am sure.

ben ji, i went fishing at truman lake last weekend. it was so rough ridin' cold that my dad and uncle fished for 2 days and caught 2 crappie. i threw a line in with a few extra sinkers and a minnow in and caught a catfish within 10 minutes. got bored and cold after an hour so went home. they stayed a few extra and caught a bunch more cat fish. unfortunately, they were all super skinny.

The ponds in the region, ? 1 hour west of Manhattan, all look relatively healthy. They are down a bit but could be much worse. It seems like the winter wasn't harsh enough, there is a substantial amount of moss/algae below the surface for this time of year. Full Disclosure: Not a pond/algae expert

First one of the year a solid pounder. Also he had a weird black tail so I don't know if it is a omen or not. Feels pretty good. Almost caught another wacky worm style but he threw the hook half way in.
