I remember when some detractor was saying Diaz would be the next JHR, like that was a bad thing.

not a bad thing, necessarily.  a redundant thing though, especially if you add it cauley as a third jhr.  ideally, i think you'd want more diversity in your frontcourt.  at this point though, just getting five decent bigs will feel like a win.

Yeah, noticed that in the '12 thread.  Good for him.  Heights v SE should have been a decent game.   It wasn't. Heights is really good.  Anyway, I was thinking somone was watching Smart.  I was wrong.

Question. How do these recruits' performances transfer to the D-1 level? I haven't been in on following recruiting for more than 2 years. Still haven't gotten the hang of it. These performances sound pretty solid to me. Does this mean a possibility of role players next year or mostly bench, or are they better than that? What's the scoop?

Diaz appears to be a much better Jordan Henriquez Roberts at the high school level.  By accounts seems quite a bit further along offensively at this point, but will still be a bit of a project.  Probably not contributing much as freshman like JO.

Gipson draws comparisons to Marshall Moses, bruiser, undersized type post-player - hopefully as productive at the college level.

Without using any scientific methods other than simply comparing their frames, it would appear that Diaz may actually have the ability to put on a little more mass and carry it well as opposed to JHR being rail thin forevermore.

Agree wholeheartedly on the Moses comparo.

AR looks like a bulldog-type PG that lacks Clemente's speed, but shares his fearlessness on the offensive end.  He isn't afraid to take a shot.  Any shot.  I anticipate a good deal of benchings his freshman year.

On the surface, none of them look like immediate game changers, but they are a very solid class of future contributors, which you need to have from time to time.

I'm tired of this talking point that JHR can't put on weight. Any normal, healthy person can get bigger/stronger by dedicating themselves to progressive resistance training and eating more protein/calories. Look at this guy:

JHR was a proven scorer at the HS level.  Supposedly, he even had outside shooting ability.   At the HS level.

He needed to develop a back-to-the-basket game, which he is still working on.

So, your talking point is that Diaz is a finished product and will contribute big points immediately?  Are you gonna eat that jello cup?
